Forums - Nintendo - What would have sold most? 3D World, Galaxy 3, or a Mario 64 successor?

Wait how is Super Mario Galaxy not considered a true Super Mario 64 successor?

Appeal transcends userbase. Metroid Prime sold twice what Metroid Other M did on 1/5th the install base.

So you honestly believe Sunshine and 3D World would have sold the same even on 100m consoles? Unlike Metroid, Mario is mainstream, widely appealing, thus he is always going to have one of the highest attach rates on any given console as each person who buys one is likely going to buy Mario aswell.

Had Sunshine released on Wii, I don't believe for a second it would have sold as much as Galaxy.

Well, I do!

Guess we can only agree to disagree here since there's not much proof either way. Eventually Nintendo will have another successful console, they'll release Sunshine 2 on it, and then you'll all see!

Indeed, we can only agree to disagree. (I'll just rest my case on the sales: about 6 million for Sunshine, about 11 million for Galaxy :p )

Yep, sold half Galaxy with 1/5th the install base!

Galaxy 3 even though it will never launch on Wii U

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

Wii U will have a smaller install base than GCN, yet Mario Kart 8 is going to outsell Double Dash. Once again, appeal transcends install base size.

So much for agreeing to disagree as you're now trying to go in circles. In addition to the response I gave last time, a game can only sell so much based on what the console sells. Implying Sunshine should have still been able to reach 10 million is unreasonable.

A game with strong appeal will sell consoles to people who want the game but don't already own the system, thus pushing against the install base barrier.

Uh, and? Also doesn't make much sense for you to say that considering you just brought up MK8 saying it would outsell MKDD (unlikely btw) thus making it more appealing, yet the GC will still have sold better.
