I should probably state for the record that I consider 3D World an excellent game; it was my 2nd favourite game of 2013, behind only Bioshock Infinite.

I just don't think it's what the mainstream gamers (which I'm not) mostly wanted from the first HD 3D Mario.

So you also believe mainstream gamers don't want any Nintendo games then as their other franchises didn't do any better on Wii U.

Mario Kart 8 and Smash have done better, because there were more desirable to the mainstream "core" gamer.

A proper Super Mario 64-2 is like asking for half life 3.

I'd also bet that World was the better choice in terms of sales.

People talk alot about what games they want, and applaude nintendo for their experiments. But they rarely buy their games...

But not significantly better, both in terms of their own sales n attach rate and their effect on Wii U sales, so they're all in the same league, thus you can't say one is or isn't appealing without saying they all are.

Also Mario Kart has always been above 3D Mario post N64 so nothing new there.

MK8 is already considerably ahead of 3D World, and Smash has passed it in less than 6 months. MK8 also gave Wii U hardware sales a substantial and prolonged boost.

They are all multi million sellers and they all couldn't put Wii U above Gamecube levels. Mario Kart selling better than 3D Mario didn't start with Wii U. Replace MK8 with MKWii and 3D World with Galaxy and the results would be the same.

Since you didn't instantly reply the second after I made my post I can add this bit in hehe.

The most significant similarity is that they all sold worse than their predecessors. 3D World did worse than Galaxy, as did Smash4 against Brawl, and MK8 n NSMBU are doing laughably worse than MKWii and NSMBWii respectively, You could just as easily make a thread like this about any of Nintendo's franchises that have released on Wii U, therefore it's not fair to single out 3D Mario as the sole franchise that isn't "what people wanted". Of course we know Nintendo games are very much wanted based on the 3DS, thus the issue is in the home console itself. The only fault on part of the games is not releasing consistently.

Because while Galaxy was more appealing to core gamers, MKWii was more appealing to the casuals, who were more numerous on the Wii.

If that's all you have to respond back with then I guess we're done here.

Yeah, time to agree to disagree. Will be interesting to see what approach they take on NX and how that sells...
