Forums - Gaming - Games That Were Suppose To Sell Very Well/Huge, But Failed to Do So? (Devs+Publishers Expectations, not Fans)

i know its still early and it could have legs, but The Order 1886, it was supposed to be a 4-5 million seller.
PS All Stars
Forza 5
Medal of Honor (the past two games)
TitanFall (it was supposed to be the "next big thing")
Max Payne 3 (such a shame that this didnt sell as much as it needed, was an AMAZING game)

BioShock Infinite and Dead Space 3. They most likely put an end to both IPs.

Who said The Order was supposed to sell 4-5 million? Even inFAMOUS wasn't expected to sell that much and that's an established franchise.

I completely agree about PS All-Stars.

If this is developers expectations not sure why Titanfall is there, I remember EA saying they were happy with the sales.  Anyway Ill say Tomb Raider.

Well most companies will say anything, if im not mistaken, wasnt Titanfall suppose to be the next COD, or was that just fans hyping the game up?

Yeah....you pretty much laid out thread rules and then broke them in the next sentence of your OP by naming Titanfall

Last I checked it had passed 3 million sales.

Not bad for a new IP getting most of its sales from a new platform!

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

Funny op says it doesn't mean it sold bad and user expectations doesn't count. But then defend ssbu saying most didn't expect as much and 3,4M isn't bad. If you don't have ninty expectations you can't overule it.

Or is the thread purpouse to piss over one of the 3 games in op but in stealth? Are you talking gen 8 only? All gens?

Because if it's the first then psabr can't enter. But if it's the second then ET for Atari wins hands down and you can close the thread.

Could you please better clarify parameters?

If we just need to account for what devs and publishers wanted, than the fail doesn't get more spectacular than Drake of the 99 Dragons which bombed in the extreme. And for good reason, it was garbage.

ET and Pac-Man (Atari 2600)

Gaist Crusher. Was supposed to be Monster Hunter x Youkai Watch, didn't even sell 50k. Capcom pretty much openly admitted in their financial reports that it was a failure.

I made a couple of threads about this regarding 2013 games:

Showing my selections for most disappointing Japanese/Western developed games of the year.  Probably should've done one for 2014 too.

TitanFall went on to sell 4.29m at retail. Including digital probably passed 5m. Im not sure how that isnt very well.

And id say Sunset Overdrive.  While itll probably pass 1m by the end of this year, i would have expected a little higher by this time
