Forums - Gaming - Why video games fans care about sales more than any other entertainment business?

Why do people use arguments to argue... Damn, i don't know. Never thought about that before...

And yes, its a valid argument. Not the definitive argument, but is a valid one to help the support a claim. Why not? if its a very tight argument, sales can tip the scale, but as a absolute argument, is as void as it can be, as COD has being showing us every year.

Proudest Platinums - BF: Bad Company, Killzone 2 , Battlefield 3 and GTA4

Games are bigger commitments than a 2 hour movie or a 1 hour a week TV show.

It requires you to interact with it and require you to invest yourself on it, not just sit on the couch and watch or listen.

That is why games are a bigger deal and people feel more personal about it.

I guess you guys haven't seen the other sites, carchartz and colachartz. There are some intense Pepsi and Chevy fanboys out there.

Every entertainment medium has fanboys and fans who care about their idols or favorite product, but the only entertainment medium where I see that a lotof people care about sales is in the gaming industry. For example, you don't see Madonna fans saying that Lady gaga sucks because madonna has more money or more sales, or you don't see Cleveland fans saying that Lebron sells more tickets and Jerseys than kobe, so kobe sucks. They use the product or idol to fight "Lady gaga sings better or is more creative than Madonna" "Lebron is better right now, kobe is too old" "Inception is an amazing movie!, better than Avatar!! (avatar sold more)" etc. So why sales are so important to gamers? why gamers are so proud about sales?

This is a charts website so I'm not specifically talking about vgchartz, just in general.

Edit: why we use sales to fight? that's the real point of the thread.

Because if Lady Gaga has bad sales with a single..... guess what? she still makes a new single.

Software wise..... bad sales = death of a game franchise. Your favorite games wont be anymore.

It's not video game fans per se. just the ones that need something to brag about (AKA annoying people). and other entertainment business don't involve multiple platforms.

Yet you have a sales bet in your sig?

Am I bragging about sales, though?

Not really proud. It's better to have more people to play with is all. This is more and more true as we move into the digital era.

Well you said that's the only kind of people that care about sales. Yet here you are on a sales website betting on sales.

I'll ask again. Am I bragging about sales? short answer: NO

caring /bragging aren't exactly prerequisites to bet on things.

Because i am gamer and a person who involve in marketing, and sales, and have a basic knowledge for both. So playing video games when you grew up is not just enjoying games but you push to be analyzing the current situation around your hobbies on a different level.

It really doens't work that way, though. Artists who don't do well are usually dropped by their labels or stop releasing albums until their lables see that there it demand for them. After Lady Gaga started flopping, to my knowledge, she stopped making music videos and releasing music. Same with Britney Spears. Her manager said that they'll release a couple of singles and see if they'll release an album eventually. That had never happened before with her and it's only because they don't want to risk losing money again on her (since her last album flopped).
