The fact that Sony isn't even close to fulfilling these goals is a testament to their own arrogance. It goes to show that all that they truly care about is to satisfy the audience that already wants a Playstation 4, while the people who find little interest in the console are left with no incentives to change their minds.

If they wish to broaden their userbase and appeal to new consumers who aren't already Sony fans, this attitude desperately needs to change.

To be fair to Sony; execs at Nintendo okayed and signed the deal.  When Yamauchi found out, much later apparently, instead of going to Sony to renegotiate he went to a competitor to make a competing platform.  That's just bad business and quite possibly cost them dearly.

I'm guessing he was just going along with this joke thread.

If not then I'm concerned about his views because he just described Nintendo's problem.

No worries.  After all, we got two of the greatest things in video-game history out of that broken agreement:  the PSX and Zelda: Wand of Gamelon on the Phillips CD-i.
