That snail is me.
From what I've read, Nintendo are pretty ruthless when it comes to nice, clean, optimised code in their games. It's one of the main reasons their games rarely have any bugs (certainly not major ones), and it would probably be one of the reasons for their games being relatively low in file size.
Also, as has been mentioned above, they tend not to do things like FMV a whole lot.

They are probably just wizards with their assets, and compression. That game could fit on a PSP UMD. This is both fantastic and impressive.
Some of you seem to be really threatened by this little game. It will end up becoming yet another terrific exclusive for Wii U, you can add it to the other ten on the list.

Let me guess, you didn't read any of the comments. One question: Is Super Mario 3D World a 'small' game? |
I had wii in past. Supermario 3d world is big. But i know that this abstract obstacle game doesnt need a lot. Mario 3d world is dreamcast graphics plus pixelshading which dreamcast lacked. Evil twin on the dreamcast is a much biggzr game. You could ad some shaders here and there and it micht be 2gb.
Splatoon is very small i know for sure. After finishing the game ypur ment to go multiplayer which is fine. But it will be not enough. The game is simply to small and smells gamecube billy hatcher graphics.
This means the game anno 2015 is simply to small and the intentions are very clear. The game would be approximately 4gb. But no. It is 1.8 and the rest will be DLC. Plus the combo of amibo usage
I can vomit of this
Mario kart 8 when it came out was no dlc. After update i see empty blocks that if i buy dlc the characters get unlocked. This is the reason i stopped buying fighting and racing games alltogether. And this trend will be implemented in splatoon as well.
You know im gonna be right. Debating this is just silly

Lol, sure...

Tropical Freeze is 11.4GB.
That should shut the people who think it should have been a downloadable 20$ game up...
| Vodacixi said: How can this be possible at all? I mean, maybe the game doesn't have super graphics or tons and tons of content like Smash has... but hell, 2 GB is incredibly low! Nintendo must have some kind of magic to optimize the size of their games, because between this, Mario Kart 8 and 3D World they are constantly surprising me in this matter. |
It's a 4v4 sub-HD arena shooter. Not really a surprise.
Prediction for console Lifetime sales:
Wii:100-120 million, PS3:80-110 million, 360:70-100 million
[Prediction Made 11/5/2009]
3DS: 65m, PSV: 22m, Wii U: 18-22m, PS4: 80-120m, X1: 35-55m
I gauruntee the PS5 comes out after only 5-6 years after the launch of the PS4.

It is amazing how little data is used with actual gameplay content if you stick with a low res visual style. All those 20GB + games that are 60% non-core gaming content. But still I likes me some good fmv, voice acting, fine detail stuff. |
@ bolded are you being facitious? Disc size was one of the reasons (valid or otherwise) third parties slammed the gamecube. The Wii U was supposed to draw in third parties (although outside of indies it hasn't done a good job) so I'd imagine that's why they went with a medium that would be 3rd party friendly.
