FFVII isn't a full transition to 3D. |
Which game would you call a full ransition to 3D? FFX? If so then I don't vote for FF anymore, FFX was good but the high levels of linearity and lack of world map were disappointing.

I should've known given your common sense and higher standards. I've seen far too many instances of people defending those games; I've become desensitized.

Haha, thanks mate, though before you praise my standards, remember I'm the guy who considers the Wii better than the N64 or Gamecube. :p

To be fair, I understand why you feel that way. I just don't agree.
The Wii is pretty great, though.
If I compare most of these titles to their predecessors, I'd say they're more of an aesthetic experience than one that challenges the players dexterity.
For me it's MGS even if other games were mechanically superior. Yes, the stealth mechanics were just a reinterpretation of it's 2D predecessors. Also yes, the characters now look like potatoes bobbing their heads when they talk. But never have I seen a story with such complex three dimensional characters before (both figuratively and literally). The transition to 3D created a stylized "realism" that made the world's video gamey reality more believable for it's time.

GTA!!! GTA III defined a generation of gaming. When that game released there wasn't a PS2 in the world that didn't have GTA III inside the disc drive. Since that game there have been numerous clones and mimics. There is never a mention of the open-world genre without a mention of GTA. GTA III in particular.
PC GAMING: BEST GAMES. WORST CONTROLS
A mouse & keyboard are made for sending email and typing internet badassery. Not for playing video games!!!
Even though I am a fan of some of the other games more than Super Mario 64, I have to give credit where credit is due.
Super Mario 64 was one of the first major 2d franchises to go 3d, and unlike anything before it, the game revolutionized the way 3d games would be made from then on. To this day, Super Mario 64 controls better than most other 3d platformers (even more than Ape Escape which was my favorite PS1 platformer) of the time and, even more impressively, of today (aside from newer Mario titles which built off of it).
Just about every 3d game this side of FPS's does 3d like Super Mario 64.
Ninja Gaiden it also took the longest to make the leap from 2D to 3D.
Prince of Persia is a similar story since it also took a long time to make that leap. Forgot that there was a Prince of Persia 3D, so Ninja Gaiden is the clear winner. It also has the biggest graphical leap from one game to the next even if you include the superior looking first Ninja Gaiden arcade game.

Sonic R was the first 3D Sonic game and Sonic 3D Blast was semi 3D and both of those games wheren't that good and Castlevania 64 wasn't really that good either.
