Forgot aaout that. Still, there isn't always something new; many Directs focus only on previously announced titles.

I'd be happy to be proven wrong though.

Can you name a Direct where nothing new was announced? As far as I can recall there is always something.

Can't recall the contents of each specific one, they kind of bleed together in my memory, but I do remember some ending and being like "meh, nothing new".

every direct had at least 1 new game. Of course im talking about a normal direct (not 1 game focused)

They probably showed something new that you simply didn't care about.

I love your neverending bitterness.

Eh? I guess. Every time a Nintendo Direct rolls around people pull out their wish list of dream announcements. Then we get a new Kirby game instead and what they take away from that is "nothing new."

It's difficult to look back on old Nintendo Directs and figure out what was "new" and what was already known, especially in the case of localizations. Nintendo seems to like presenting every game they show as if it's the first time anyone has seen it.

The early Directs were somewhat bare-bones compared to more recent ones. The NA and EU versions were usually presented in whole by Reggie & Shibata, not by Iwata, and the three regional Directs had much different content from each other. It was more like three separate Directs being presented simultaneously or in close proximity to each other rather than the modern global Directs which share a large amount of content.

The first such Global Direct was the one held in January 2013. I don't have to remind anyone what was announced then. Next was February 2013, when Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, Mario Golf: World Tour, New Super Luigi U, Kersploosh, Mario & DK Minis on the Move, Dillon's Rolling Western 2, and DK Country Returns 3D were all revealed. Next was April 2013 and the reveal of Mario Party: Island Tour, Yoshi's New Island, Earthbound on the Virtual Console, and Link Between Worlds -- as well as the localization announcements of Layton and the Azran Legacy, Bugs vs Tanks, Starship Damrey, Attack of the Friday Monsters, and Bravely Default. Reminder: April.

Let's just list them from here.

October 2013 -- Kirby: Triple Deluxe
December 2013 -- Hyrule Warriors, NES Remix, Dr. Luigi, Chibi Robo Photo Finder (localization), Sonic Lost World DLC
February 2014 -- NES Remix 2, Pokemon Battle Trozei, Steel Diver: Sub Wars, Rusty's Real Deal, Weapon Shop de Omasse (localization), GBA VC on Wii U
November 2014 -- Majora's Mask 3D
January 2015 -- Fire Emblem If, Project Treasure, Pokemon Shuffle, Puzzle and Dragons Z / Mario Edition (localization), Hyrule Warriors Majora themed DLC, Wii games on Wii U eShop, New 3DS + Xenoblade 3D (localization)

That's it, that's every simultaneous global Nintendo Direct since the start of 2013. Every single one has had at least one new game, and what's interesting is that the Directs taking place in the first half of the year, yes even the one in April, have far more new game announcements than the ones in the latter half. This is not including the amazing new footage of Xenoblade X and Mario Kart 8 or character reveals for Smash Bros shown periodically throughout these Directs.

I'm not trying to get everyone overhyped. I don't expect Nintendo to blow their load prematurely tomorrow. But in the last couple of years they've clearly been making E3 more Wii U-focused, even practically ignoring the 3DS in 2012 only to have a Direct revealing the XL a couple of weeks later. I fully expect Nintendo to get some of their 3DS announcements out of the way tomorrow to make room for the Wii U at E3.

Fun fact: according to a translation of the japanese ND announcement, they specify no NX (you can actually see NX written there) or Smartphon talk.

Nintendo really wanting to separate things!

That's good. I only want 3DS and WiiU information.

I don't mind waiting either. Although i'm looking forward to what i think will be a good surprise!

I have a feeling Project Treasure will appear again.

Project Treasure? Hmm.. Sounds interesting. However, when was this announced?

I guess Skullwaker already answered that.

We didn't see a whole lot but it didn't feel like a cheap F2P game.

It looks like NX is closer than we believe.

I think Nintendo just wants to make it clear that NX isn't coming anytime soon.

Nice little breakdown

So basically we shouldn't expect much new for Wii U since they will want to save big reveals for E3.

Splatoon blowout (releases in May)

Yoshi's Woolly World trailer (rumored for June)

Mario Kart 8 DLC Pack 2

Smash Bros Mewtwo DLC

eShop/Virtual Console stuff

Perhaps something on Xenoblade Chronicles X or Devil's Third depending on when they end up releasing

What we should expect is some new 3DS announcements since we literally know of not a single Nintendo-published title for the second half of the year (Fire Emblem If is Summer in Japan but no word on the West).

One thing I would love to see is the smaller New 3DS to release alongside Xenoblade Chronicles 3D on the 10th.

Puzzles & Dragons Z+Super Mario Bros. Edition trailer

Fire Emblem If trailer and launch window

A couple localizations (possibly Final Fantasy Explorers, Youkai Watch, Bravely Second, etc.)

eShop/Virtual Console stuff

A couple new game announcements

Something like that seems realistic and would be a pretty decent Direct especially with E3 right around the corner.
