I'm not looking at things in a vacuum. The games were never good. They were just reviewed terribly at launch.

That's your opinion, not fact. The facts are this. Sonic Adventure was universially praised and given 9's back in the day. You would have been on an island alone with your opinion back then. Of course, being that you were only 8 or so when it launched, it wouldn't have been taken seriously anyway.

Maybe that's the problem here. I should have looked at your age before debating this because I have a rule about it. Never debate the past with someone who was a little kid when said past was happening. You weren't there. You don't know. You have no idea of how impactful that game was. All you have to go on is wikipedia and youtube. That's not good enough.

Age does play an important role in how we view these things from the past.

When the Dreamcast was launched, I recall many of us who were weighing our options to jump on or wait for the other expected consoles of the generation.  I recall being turned off by the online monthly costs...  I ended up buying an Xbox the day it came out a couple years later, but I digress.

Absolutely, I can not find anything worthwhile about it then or now ...

Dreamcast was a better console than PS2 up until it was discontinued (comparing the console libraries at that time). It gave better value for money and had tons of fun games.

Now it's overglorified by the same people who abandoned it in favour of the Sonyfication of gaming. The Dreamcast is interesting as it really is, even without all the nerd hype.

EDIT: The dreamcast is one of the best consoles ever though. That people found a way to still play Phantasy Star online on it should be a testament to that.

The PS2 had better games at launch, ridge racer and tekken tag tournament were awesome games and in just 1 year later we got games like metal gear solid 2 and silent hill 2 as well as shadow of memories. 3 games with the best storylines in gaming to this day.

It was better value for your money?

PS2 was fully backwards compatible with PS1 games, people could sell their PS1s to upgrade. Dreamcast couldnt.

PS2 was compatible with all PS1 controllers so there was no need to buy a second analogstick controller if you allready bought the dualshock 1. Dreamcast hasnt allowed you that, so if you upgraded your saturn controller to one with analogstick for games like night into dreams you were out of luck.

PS2s video cables were identical to its predecessor so if you bought a good scart cable for your ps1 you could use them on your next gen system at the time. $ega hasnt allowed you to use saturn cables.

Now you ad in the fact that the ps2 could play DVDs while the dreamcast couldnt its now wonder why people chose sony, really.

No, It's still one of the best consoles ever made. it did not fail ,Sega ran out of money and the new president wanted to focus on the panchinko business Sega Ran , even though it is said that the previous President before dying left his fortune in stocks and shares to Sega on the grounds that they continue with Dreamcast. Basically they went against a dying mans wishes from what i have found out.

I play Dreamcast all the time ,games are still made for it by some great indies and there are five or six games coming this year..

Me I'm a old school gamer , and for many of us this was the best time for consoles.

The Wii U is the most exciting console to come out since the Dreamcast ,but maybe modern gamers are boring ,they just like COD,Assassins Creed and games which hold your hand while you play. Back in the 90's all the consoles ,Sega,Sony, Nintendo and even the first Xbox had games for real gamers..

The sixth generation of consoles was the best and will stand the test of time as the greatest console generation ever. It's the only time i have ever purchased all the consoles of the generation ,i have even the Ill fated Atari Jaguar which sold a meager 250'000 world wide plus the toilet seat looking CD add on which i think only 50'000 where made.

Maybe we need a shake up next generation , maybe the likes of LG ,Samsung should enter the game. Roll on Gen 9.

Oh, golly, that's sad.  I never heard that before.

The DreamCast was great for 16-17 years ago.  But I disagree, I think consoles are better now.  I could see he potential back then for a great 3D game, but it was really something like Skyrim last gen that made it real (although now, it already looks dated IMO.)

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

Morrowind (2002) > Skyrim (2011) :P

To me it was the first system that did 3D (polygonal) games right. I remember finding Ocarina of Time, Virtua Fighter and Metal gear Solid very ugly to look at. So when Dreamcast launched with Soul Calibur the difference was massive. I even remember playing a freaking NFL game simply because the visual difference between it and PS1 version were so vast.

Of course, the PS2, GC and XB followed and delivered same quality visuals or better so the wow factor had subsided. I would say Generation 6 was the deepest generation we will ever see with four quality consoles.

The 5th generation was way better imo. At least the ps1, saturn and n64 havent shared all the same games but had all tons of exclusives
