Dreamcast is lucky it died when it did. If it survived throughout the 6th gen its shortcomings would've been more pronounced.

Yeah, it was lacking in power. It was like a weak 6th gen console or a strong 5th gen console. You could tell a game was for Dreamcast a lot of the time by just looking at the textures and effects. Still loved it, though.

The fact that there were over 20 games made since its demise and 3 new games coming out this year should be a testament to that.
I adored the Dreamcast at the time despite initially ignoring it on release. I purchased a discounted model and was blown away with the games available. I prefered Shenmue I and II to any Zelda game. I loved the 2D and 3D beat em ups and there was loads of them. There were also a huge number of quirky games that you didn't see on other consoles. Part of the charm was the absolutely amazing VGA quality. It looked truly stunning on my AE100 projector. The whole wall was alive with gaming. While the ps2 was a capable console its video output quality was dire and also the original xbox was a a little dark. Only the Gamecube really competed using the very expensive component cable. To me both N64 and PS2 were only really suitable for connection to small CRT sets such was their poor quality output.
Looking at this video there is at least 40 games I remember really enjoying;

I still believe it was under-rated considering the gameplay goodness it offered.

To be fair, you can also do this on the GC (through private servers.) I think that is more of a testament to how good the PSO games were.

But they were Dreamcast games. The GC port only happened because they had to pull the plug. So it's a testament of how great the Dreamcast catalogue was. ;)
Overrated? Definitely not. Skies of Arcadia is still my favourite RPG, and Soul Calibur is still my favourite fighting game. I've been holding out (extremely false) hope that Shenmue I & II will be remastered, and that Shenmue III will be released.

Thanks for the video. I saw a few games that looked interesting. Will check out a Dreamcast emulator and try them out.
The Dreamcast was fantastic with some amazing games. I think it is remembered fairly, as the general consensus is that it was highly competitive in the games department and in the time it was out churned out some fantastic games, but other issues like piracy and the PS2 release doomed it.
You're Gonna Carry That Weight.
Xbox One - PS4 - Wii U - PC

Even the Legend himself (Yu Suzuki) wants this to happen!

He still seems desperately keen to make the conclusion to the Shenmue saga
