Forums - Gaming - [PS4/XB1] Batman Arkham Asylum/City Remaster coming!

They should really simply call them ports, there is nothing that is remastered about those (same goes for TLoU, alo 1, 3 and 4 in the halo collection, etc.) they're basically straight ports where the frame rate and resolution is improved, for the console only titles, then those games that have PC versions they used some or all of the higher quality assets.

Thomb Raider:DE is in another league as some effects were added, but this is still mostly a port of the PC version to the new consoles.

True that; the graphical leap was a lot larger back then. Not trying to dispute anyone's opinions on remasters, just pointing out that they (and collections) have existed before.

They have. They didnt really come until about 3 years after the 7th gen begun though. Now theyre just everywhere...

Yep they really are

Keep rolling them all you want. When you're done, look up threads with the announcement of remasters of DmC, Tomb Raider, and even Darksiders 2. See which ones attract more hate and try to figure out why. And just a hint, it's not the price or how good of a deal they are.

The only remasters I've been okay with in the last 2 years were Majora's Mask, MCC and Grim Fandango. MCC mostly because the first two games have MP elements that can no longer be experienced on console and buggy MP aside, it was a great deal. Majora's Mask is what, a 15 year old game on a console that can't be purchased via retail anymore. Plus the game was starting to hit that retro price where it's almost not worth buying. I don't think Grim Fandango needs to be explained.

The rest of these don't make much sense to me. These games are not being built from the ground up to match the capabilities of the PS4/XBO, they are simply getting slight upgrades for extra sales. People can use whatever justification they want, most of these games can be found for less than $20 on the PS3/360. Like others have suggested, Sony and MS should just reduce the prices of these older consoles.

People are saying if you don't want it, don't buy it, can't the same be said if you do want to play it. If people wanna play these games enough, they should just buy it on their original consoles which I wouldn't really call outdated yet. You guys always go on and on about how these casuals only buy 2-3 games anyway, if this is true then they won't have a problem buying a PS3/Xbox 360 just to play these 2-3 games they want.

Finally, someone who phrases it right.

I can't, however, agree with the rest. I wanna play Fable 2, but I'm not gonna buy an xb360 no matter what. It's not worth the extra money, Fable 2 looks worse than it would on xb1, and I don't want a 5th console in my room, taking space and being used once a blue moon. Now that I have a ps3, ps4, 3ds, vita, and a PC, getting a new-old console would make zero sense to me. I also haven't played anything on my ps3 in ages, despite my huge backlog. If it were to come out as a remaster for the ps4, I would preorder it without a second thought. For me it would be a new game and well worth $40 or whatever they would charge for it.

So I seriously don't understand why anyone would think that people should go out and buy old consoles they don't need instead of waiting and spend $10 on a remaster after its inevitable price drops. You think it's expensive? Wait for a pricecut. Have no interest at all in it? Don't buy it. That simple.

Also, there's so much flip-flopping, it's not even funny. First people claim that remasters are bad because they take up developers' time, then that we have too many remasters, then that we want new games, and NOW that games like GoW should have been a collection. Do they realize that making a collection and making sure that all those games run smoothly on ps4 would take ages and would actually stop SM developers from working on GoWIV? I mean, some consistency would be great. As for me, I'll wait for a price cut and maybe in 2018, I'll play it again, 8 years after the first time.

I guess that's one way to look at it.

I understand that you will get a few people who hate on things because of the console it's on. But to dismiss all criticism as haters and other console fanboys is Just as bad imo.

Never disagreed with this.

Since it was backwards compatible there was no need for any physical re-releases.......... the first work on a physical remaster did not start until 2008 because there was no need to do so before then. What point are you trying to make? My OP stated that remasters have existed before and in large quantity, especially collections of whole series. They are perhaps becoming more frequent in PS4, and this is partly because of no backwards compatibility. I did not say whether or not I agreed with remasters or not

First of all, PS3 and 360 only had limited backwards compatibility, so let's not act like devs/publishers couldn't have dropped several remasters and collections right away if they wanted to.

As for my point....I believe it was fairly straight forward. We're getting too many "remasters" (most of which are really just lazy ports) so far this gen. By the time the first 2-3 years are up we'll no doubt have more of them than the entire 7th gen of consoles did in 8+ years.

I don't know why you're trying to read into it like I was attempting to put words in your mouth on your opinion about them. I had no such intention, and of all the things I could put in ones mouth, words are at very back end of things I would consider first.

I agree, too many, what´s next?...Modern Warfare 1-3?...Assassins Creed 1-3?....This gen is still young, I get that, but it already desperately needs an identity of its own, one that won´t end up as "gen of the remasters"

Pretty much how I see it.

When the Xbox 360 launched, it got ports of PS2/Xbox games (ie: Gun, Tomb Raider Legend)

When the Xbox launched, it got ports of old games (ie: Tony Hawk's Pro Skater X)

When the PS2 launched, it got a few ports of Dreamcast games (ie: Ready 2 Rumble).

When the Dreamcast came out, it got a few ports of PS1 and N64 games (ie: Actvision's Spider-Man)

When the PS1 launched, it had 16-Bit games (Mortal Kombat Trilogy)

and they were all full priced retail games and nobody seemed to ever care.  I bought a few of them then, too! What the heck is going on, now?

I said that because you asked me to take off alol of the remasters that released during the first 1.5 years. There were none due to backwards compatibilty. I do not think devs would have made any that early on because very few would buy them when they could just put in their PS2 disc (although you are right; not all games were compatible, but most were). There would be far less on PS4 if it too was backwards compatible.

I agree we have too many remasters nowadays, and most of them are lazy.  Context and intention is hard to read online lol but no I don't think you were trying to put words in my mouth.

Exactly! Thank you! I've been trying to make that point for a while now. I even stood on the other side of the fence and said that they are more frequent now
*edit* semi-misunderstood the context here but I still agree lol. It's hard to pay attention to the Professor and the forums at the same time
