It got the critical acclaim it deserved. I don't think it ever got the sales it deserved though.

The original Metroid Prime is one of my favourite games of all time. People reminisce about their first time landing on the Halo and the game world they had just entered, but few ever talk of for me how equally impressive landing on Tallon IV, a completely alien world you knew very little about.

The way scanning provided you with information about not just the flora, creatures and areas, but also history of what had happened (with the Pirates etc) just completely immersed me, without a single word being said.



RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

It definitely deserves more sales! Metroid Prime 3 didn't even reach 2 million for Christ's sake!

I played through Prime in the GameCube era and didn't like it for some reason. I decided to retry it when Trilogy was on sale on the eshop and I'm loving it. I have no idea what I was thinking my first playthrough. Such a great series!

Star Fox as a series isn't overrated. Just Star Fox 64... and by a lot.

to answer your question I think it is way underated, been playing it since the first one came out in the 80's.  I'm not talking meta scores, i really don't give two craps about what critics think.

Pretty much this, Super Metroid and Metroid Prime are considered to be some of the best games on their respective platforms and/or some of the best games ever made, so I wouldn't describe it as being underrated.
