but why a female Link and why not a new female hero or Zelda. Link is a character, in your gif he has more emotions than a typical bethesda main character. I mean, if link is reincarnated as a female, then why not female ganondorf and male zelda... because that sounds stupid and useless for the franchise.

Well new female hero is obvious, as you said yourself in your original post, Link is an icon, and would still be so if female, and people would much rather play as female Link than random shmuck made up to be female protagonist. And Zelda, yeah if I were talkin a game where you play as a girl, Zelda would be the obvious choice, but since I'm just saying having a gender option it wouldnt make any sense, Link and Zelda are different characters with different roles and arent really interchangeable like that.
And also, would it really bother you THAT much? I mean sure if it was just a game with female Link as the protagonist, but if you had the choice between male and female, chose male, and could go through the entire game without having to think about it ever again would it really bother you that much?
