I'm all for it. However, link has been confirmed to be a boy and I actually vouched for a girl link on that video! I just think it would open up a different way of approaching how link would act. It's kinda like Avatar, Aang was a male and then the next reincarnation was a female. I just think Zelda needs more variety and stronger roles for female characters. Hyrule warriors has the strongest roles for females in Zelda that I've ever seen. What can I say, I don't like playing as dudes all the time.

but why link and not zelda or a new character... that's what I don't understand, honestly.

Female Link has been a thing for years.

I'm a pretty open minded guy but I'm not really feeling the female link. But really its not a issue. I'd play it if Zelda U was starring a female link, male link, or my guess... the daughter of Link and Zelda.

The guy in that vid is overly animated. haha. Some kind of new head movement exercise, maybe? I don't know.

Because, chances are the new character probably wouldn't have a leading role in a Zelda game. We just think that Zelda will always be unplayable (although games like Mario 3DW made peach playable). I don't see Nintendo allowing Zelda to actually be a character you control. Plus, did I mention a female link has never been done before! It's not like reincarnation is sexist or anything.

We're always looking at it from the perspective of just having Link be female in a game. What if you just got to choose Link's gender at the beginning, I mean they say Link is supposed to be more of an "insert yourself here" character, and most games with a protagonist like that let you choose the characters gender, like Pokemon.

but why a female Link and why not a new female hero or Zelda. Link is a character, in your gif he has more emotions than a typical bethesda main character. I mean, if link is reincarnated as a female, then why not female ganondorf and male zelda... because that sounds stupid and useless for the franchise.

Well new female hero is obvious, as you said yourself in your original post, Link is an icon, and would still be so if female, and people would much rather play as female Link than random shmuck made up to be female protagonist. And Zelda, yeah if I were talkin a game where you play as a girl, Zelda would be the obvious choice, but since I'm just saying having a gender option it wouldnt make any sense, Link and Zelda are different characters with different roles and arent really interchangeable like that.

And  also, would it really bother you THAT much? I mean sure if it was just a game with female Link as the protagonist, but if you had the choice between male and female, chose male, and could go through the entire game without having to think about it ever again would it really bother you that much?

I wouldn't be particularly bothered by a female link, but it's definitely a topic i'm bored of hearing about. Not just with Link either, it feels like every new James Bond movie or Doctor Who series it followed by countless "they should be female!" debates, with both sides frothing at the mouth as to why the other is wrong. I wouldn't mind if they had a good reason for wanting the change, but usually it feels like they want the character to be female simply for the sake of them being female...

If the creator wants them to be male, they should be male. If they want them to be female, they should be female. Past that it really shouldn't matter.

Gender bending characters has been a thing for a long time now, especially with the growth of the internet.

In Zelda U Link looks like handsome boy, not girl. I can't understand any speculations here.

Let's be honest, at least 20% of people think Zelda is the guy you play.
