Forums - Gaming - I think I figured out why PS4 is really winning in sales against XB1.

Yes it is. It's just your opinion that you think the PS brand is stronger, not fact. And you can believe whatever you want, because that's your opinion.

It really is the stronger brand, you know. Objectively.

Better pedigree/history. More known/trusted worldwide. Better overall reception worldwide. It's essentially been a household name in gaming for longer and in more households than Xbox currently is.

What criteria are you actually using to determine that PS's brand being better is simply "opinion"?

A Playstation fan would like to think of PS as a stronger brand because it's their favorite, same as how an Xbox fan or Nintendo fan would like to think of their brand as stronger because that's their favorite. That is why it's a matter of preference, and more of an opinion.

Also, your points about how PS is the most known worldwide and all of that would be the same thing as me saying Nintendo is the strongest brand. They are more known than anyone and have the most well known IPs in the gaming industry than anyone else. But you see, that would be my opinion, not fact. Just like everything else, it's just an opinion.

I would take Bloodborne of every MS exclusive to be honest lol.

I agree with most of what you have said but for my situation I do not see a point in getting a XBOne. I have a PS3, PS4, Gaming PC, and a Wii U that gives me access to literally 95% of games so I am good lol.

I understand your logic. Personally, I'm all in this gen. Wii U, PS4 and Xbox One for me. I'll make a PC if I have time. A high end PC would save me money on multiplats. I would just make sure to prep it so I wont have to upgrade it for a long time.

No, your favorite brand is an opinion. The "stronger brand" is a fact.

What brand is stronger Apple or Gigabyte? I would take an Gigabyte product over an Apple product anyday but Apple is the stronger brand.

Playstation is a WAAAY stronger brand than Xbox or Nintendo. It dominated 3 out of 4 gens.

PC gaming is not as expensive as most people try to act like it is (though it is more expensive than console gaming). But it is totally worth it for games that do not come to console (Civilization 5 :) lol)

Most if this is debateable/and or your opinion though.

I would not think so.

1) Better Hardware: That is a fact. The PS4 is a more powerful system than the xbone

2) Better Games: The PS4 has more higher rated games than the xbone. You cannot dispute the facts even if the xbone has a game you like more than o PS4

3) More Games) This is a fact. I dont think anyone could argue this point

4) A far stronger brand: This is probably the only one you could debate but I will say this, ouside of north america the playstation brand is far bigger. In america i would argue that it is bigger considering that its always been the best selling brand outside of one generation.

The only ones I disagree with are #2 and #4 as I said before.

For #2, while yes the PS4 might have more higher-rated games, my point before was that it doesn't really make a different to someone who doesn't care for or like those games. What I mean is, if someone doesn't like a game does the fact that it got good reviews change their opinion on it? I would assume not, which is what I meant when I said I felt like this was more of an opinion, but I see your point.

For #4 I already said it's more of what you generally prefer. Anyone could say that Nintendo, Microsoft, or Playstation was the stronger brand just because it's their favorite.

I don't think you got my point. Obviously favorite brand is an opinion, but i'm saying anyone could easily say "[Name] company is the stronger brand because [reason here]" even though the only reason they say that is because it's their personal favorite. The reason Apple would be considered a stronger brand is because it's more well-known, but in this case none of them are more well known than the other.

So the brand that has consistently sold better is not the stronger brand?

Toyota is not a stronger brand than Mazda?

I loved my Mazda and my Toyota but Toyota consistenly out sells Mazda so it is considered to be the "stronger brand"

You are talking about "favorite brands" not "stronger brands" those are two totally different things

If Sony wasnt a dominant and influential brand Microsoft would not be in the console space right now. Its pretty much a fact that Sony has dominated the console space since joining and their only major competition has been Microsoft.

If you want to use that logic, then I guess that means Nintendo is the stronger brand because they dominated with the Wii last generation.

No, stronger brand is pretty much determined by criteria such as brand recognition/popularity/trust/pedigree/etc as recieved by the target market.

Favorite is individually subjective. Stronger is not.

Nintendo is actually quite a very strong brand. And with prioritizing certain criteria over others, it could be argued that it is a competitive brand to the Playstation. Particularly in its niche. However, in every niche or category wherein it competes (due to its similarity to its competitor) and with whatever criteria you use, PS is just the superior brand to the Xbox. There is no going around this.
