Forums - Gaming - I think I figured out why PS4 is really winning in sales against XB1.

It's already fallen behind the Wii, and even that dominated and only got to 100 million.

Wii is a totally different animal than a Playstation. Playstation's continue to sell well when their successor has been released Nintendo products do not. But I get your point, I do not think the PS4 is going to even pass the Wii due to this generation being short (November2018 the PS5 will be released)

The PS4 will sell over 100 million consoles this generation. Its en route to selling 30 million by the end of this year and it hasnt even been two full years yet. Its doubled and will soon triple what Nintendo could not sell with a years head start on the market. If Sony cuts price, they'll double for the Xbox One has sold for sure. Thats just dangerous dominance.

Microsoft was forced by Sony to cut its consoles price by $150 in a years time since launch. This is not a normal reaction to someone dominating you.

P.S.

Every Sony console will enjoy a full ten years on the market before Sony cuts the chord. So yes, Sony will sell well over 100 million this gen unless they screw things up.

I didn't bring it up, he included the Nintendo console sales.

And I'm saying it doesn't matter who brought it up. Just drop it. Nintendo isn't in this thread...

Brand strength not subjective. Sony brand > Xbox brand.

We can just agree to disagree then. You can think what you want, i'll think what I want.

Its not about thinking what you want. A fact is a fact despite what anyone thinks. It cannot be proven wrong. An opinion can be argued but a fact cannot. What you're doing right now is arguing with a fact which is what people are trying to tell you. Again...its obvious you have a subjective bias.

The PS4 is going to stop between 95 and 105 million I believe. This generation is going to be short, the X is how much MS is willing to lose on the XBOne and if Nintendo can pull something huge with their next hardware.

All Sony and MS have to do to make successors is upgrade ram, apus, and probably more storage. Creating successors will be very easy and cheap to create. So I think they will pump them out early to keep the market strong and not have what happened during the end of the PS3/360 generation.

I want all 3 to do well and profit, but with the way MS goes into these generations I do not see how they can ever profit off of it =/ The 3 companies involved now are the best 3 for the industry and I do not want anything to happen to none of them.

Well, you can go ahead and think that 2 + 4 = 92 and disagree with ppl if they correct you. Up to you...

Wouldn't make you any less wrong, but ok....

Microsoft will follow Sony to the ends of the earth and Sony has a ten year profitability policy on their consoles. Expect Sony to replace the PS4 after seven years. Expect the Xbox One to follow or try to beat Sony to the market.  Microsoft's only ideology is to never give Sony room to breathe.

Here is wisdom: Microsoft created their own version of Sony's ten year profitability policy when Shane Kim was running the Xbox 360. Its almost a full decade and they wont cut the chord until Sony does, which means they will cut the chord after eleven years on the market.

If Sony launched a Playstation a year ahead of Microsoft, Microsoft would be insanely pissed. Once the PS4 was announced reports were coming in all over the internet that Microsof was jumping to launch the Xbox One within a months time of the PS4 and could only fix the clock speed by the time the PS4 launched.

Most if this is debateable/and or your opinion though.

It's not debatable if you have a poll that proves him right. Here are the current results of that poll:

XB1: 11.6m
PS4: 20.2m

You can quite clearly see that he's right.

The PS5 Exists.

I have got to disagree there.

Playstation is a game console through and through. MS has always wanted more than just a game console. They want control over end users to push them into their ecosystem (Google Strategy with Android). I think they are both kinda doing their own thing, MS has basically already pulled the plug on the 360, Sony is still supporting the PS3 decently well I think you will see Sony published games on the PS3 in 2016.

I also think you can expect successors to the PS4 and Xbox One in November of 2018. It really does not make sense not to.

"We firmly believe that the Xbox 360 has a life cycle through 2015 (10 years after the launch)," explained Microsoft exec Shane Kim.

Hrm. We could have sworn we heard that before.

OH RIGHT. Sony's been saying that for eons about the PS3.

P.S.

Microsoft primary goal despite moving into the console space is to stop Sony's dominant entrance into more homes with multimedia. They will follow them wherever they go because they know that they are the bar.

Microsoft used project Natal as an excuse to copy Sony's ten year profitability cycle. Outside of that they had no clue how to support the Xbox product at length on the level of Sony. In fact no other platform really knows outside of Sony as it would seem.

Microsofts two biggest sore spots are Sony in the console/living room space and apple in the computer space. Google sways their opinion when it comes to internet services.

Life span and support are two different things though. Its going to be forever before either one shuts down PSN or XBLive on those devices (2020 or later)

But this is how I envision next gen.

PS5 launches November of 2018 at 400$

PS4 is at 200-250$

The PS5 will run on the same arch and be 100% BC with the PS4. Devs can make games on the PS4 and VERY easily port them to the PS5 or a PS5 game would be easy to port to the PS4 you would just need to lower resolution/aa/etc.

Very similar to the way Apple works actually, you have the cheaper PS4 for people who want a cheaper product and the PS5 for people who want the best and both are affordable and easy/cheap to support. MS is going to do the exact same thing with the One/Two? Out of curosity what do you think about that plan? Can you poke any holes in it to make it unfeasible? That is just seriously what makes sense to me
