Forums - Sony - Bloodborne Review Thread - MetaCritic 93% ~ GameRankings 91.47%

I predicted Bloodborne getting a 93, Awesome! hope this holds or goes up.

I agree with sc94597, I really think Zelda U will take GOTY honors. that game looks so beautiful. It is definitely going to be the reason I end up buying a WiiU. I am extremely excited for that game, my most anticipated game this year, since Uncharted 4, and Quantum Break were delayed until 2016.

But all 3, were the games I was excited the most for this gen so far.

Nice, reviewed higher than I expected!

I've never played a souls game, but I'm just about to start demon soul's..... I'll be picking this up eventually though... so much games backlog.... thanks ps+.

Unless this game moves up a few points, I don't think it'll get the majority of GOTYs. Zelda U should be releasing this year, and even Skyward Sword has a 93 meta-critic. An open-world Zelda game is guaranteed 93+. Windwaker (95), TP(95/96), SS (93), Majora's Mask (95 on N64), and of course Ocarina of Time (99) all have 93 or above scores.

If metacritic decided GOTY then Shadow of Mordor (84) and Dragon Age: Inquisition (89) would have lost Bayonetta 2 (91), but they didn't.

Obviously this isn't comparable. Bayonetta wasn't chosen because how small its fanbase is and review sites wouldn't get the same number of hits. The Legend of Zelda is not Bayonetta though.

In 2011 Skyward Sword got something like 5 GOTY Awards and Dark Souls got one. 2011 was a three way split between Skyward Sword, Portal 2, and Skyrim. And Skyward Sword is generally considered one of the worst 3D Zeldas. A new revitalization to the series, like the upcoming Wii U game, definitely will be getting a lot of the awards.

Well I think he is saying that the publications that give out awards, not actually Metacritic itself.  But it will be an interesting battle this year; lots of potential contenders.

I don't disagree that Zelda might win the most GOTY, but you said Bloodborne needed to be higher on metacritic for it to win some. I was arguing that point, not Zelda's validity as a GOTY candidate.

More review's keep coming in but the game hold's steady at 93 metacritic.

If it manages to stay at least 92 or above it will be higher rated than any souls game.

This is the Game of Thrones

Where you either win

or you DIE

Yes, it makes sense that if review sites rate one title higher than another, then they will likely choose it for GOTY. Not to say that Bloodborne won't get a sizable portion of the awards, just that if it is in the low 90's on average and Zelda U is in the mid 90's like its predecessors, it makes sense to expect GOTY awards to reflect the review scores (considering that both games are exclusives.) Bayonetta 2 did not get GOTY, because it is a niche game, and the reviews targetted its audience (even then there were two awards given to it.)  It lost to multiplats that more people got to play (DA:I and Shadows of Mordor.) The  GOTY needs to be popular and also have good reviews so that the critics can get more hits. Furthermore, being a late release, Zelda U will still be on the minds of the critics. My post was mostly a response to the multiple posts in here along the lines of, "Bloodborne will be GOTY" or "GOTY!!" in response to the 93 average review score. I personally believe that if Bloodborne were in the mid-90's it would put up a better fight against Zelda U when the critics go back to look at their review scores and tally up GOTY for consistency.

Personally, I think GOTY is a silly concept.

People are just getting hyped like usual, not that there's anything wrong with that. There's a lot of good games still to come and we might not even get a consensus GOTY. But I do agree with your premise.

Also, looks like Bloodborne will likely settle around 92-93 since it got its second 8/10 from Cheat Code Central.

Those reviews must have had an impact. I don't remember when the last time was when I saw a new game sold out on Amazon.
