Yes, it makes sense that if review sites rate one title higher than another, then they will likely choose it for GOTY. Not to say that Bloodborne won't get a sizable portion of the awards, just that if it is in the low 90's on average and Zelda U is in the mid 90's like its predecessors, it makes sense to expect GOTY awards to reflect the review scores (considering that both games are exclusives.) Bayonetta 2 did not get GOTY, because it is a niche game, and the reviews targetted its audience (even then there were two awards given to it.) It lost to multiplats that more people got to play (DA:I and Shadows of Mordor.) The GOTY needs to be popular and also have good reviews so that the critics can get more hits. Furthermore, being a late release, Zelda U will still be on the minds of the critics. My post was mostly a response to the multiple posts in here along the lines of, "Bloodborne will be GOTY" or "GOTY!!" in response to the 93 average review score. I personally believe that if Bloodborne were in the mid-90's it would put up a better fight against Zelda U when the critics go back to look at their review scores and tally up GOTY for consistency. Personally, I think GOTY is a silly concept. |
People are just getting hyped like usual, not that there's anything wrong with that. There's a lot of good games still to come and we might not even get a consensus GOTY. But I do agree with your premise.
