Forums - Gaming - Wii's WPB vs Xbox 360 RRoD. Double standard???

Well, that goes without saying of course, lol

Edit: I am very annoyed, as this WPB has, and is still currently happening to me. I have to try a couple things, in order to clean it, as I don't have a warranty on it.

if certain wii's are having trouble reading DVD9's, then what will happen when more and more games start being released on DVD9?

Is the wii's optical drive so sensitive to the point of not being able to read DVD9 if their is dust, I mean dust is so common and it get's in everything, Nintendo should have factored dust issues when making it's optical drive.
What good is it to have an optical drive than can read standard dvd despite if their is dust or not and then spaz out when trying to read a DVD9 because of the dust...just seems weird to me.

kingofwale, I'd like you to point out why you're ignoring the fundamental difference between the RROD and this problem. So far it's not proven (nor does it seem plausible) that the failure rate with this problem is nearly as big as RROD's.

Once you have done that, I'll be happy to participate in the thread again. Until then, I'll keep assuming that you're just trying to bait Wii fans into a trollish discussion.

I didn't miss it. But since we have such oppose view on the whole thing, also, I've already stated the below before (I will repeat it now)

What I'm concerned about isn't the failure rate, or the cause. It's the fact you have to send it in to get it repaired and the public reception of such issue. Nintendo seems to be riding the easy wave through it while Microsoft is being bashed bitterly wherever it goes.

Now, I'm not saying Nintendo should get bashed for it, but the fact nobody seemed to be complaining about it while Microsoft is being kicked while it's on the ground is a bit strange.

A handful of launch Wiis are affected by an inability to read dual layer discs. 33% of all 360s suffer a RROD. It is simply a matter of scale. It is acceptable to have some minor hardware defects, but not super widespread failure. This is a minor hardware defect and only affects one game right now.

WPB: Won't Play Brawl.

Wii's WPB issue: Won't play Brawl, probably won't play any future double-layered disc games. You shouldn't attempt to fix it yourself. Can't return to retailer

Solution: Return it to Nintendo for free repair

Xbox RRoD: Won't play games, dead, You shouldn't attempt to fix it yourself. you shouldn't return it to retailer.

Solution: Return it to Microsoft for free repair

Now, I own neither console, but is it me or whenever RRoD issue comes up, people calls Microsoft all kind of name, while Nintendo seems to be getting away with all the bad PRs?

RRoD can be caused by any number of things.

WPB? is one game... that is it.

I don't know much about you, so I might be off but I have noticed you have been bashing alot of Nintendo products lately... why do you hate them?

I used to knock the 360 quite a bit, well you will find that I ocassionaly still do, although only on hardware and such, not on the games. Now that I own one, I realized how good some of these games are... like Bioshock and Lost Odyssey.

Try to not hate on everything and quit being cheap, pick one up and give it a try. I guarantee you will feel foolish for alot of the things you say and/or have said. I know I did.

But the failure rate has everything to do with it. Will you create a similar thread if your TV breaks and you have to send it over for repair? If things have to get repaired, they have to get sent somewhere for it.

People don't bash Microsoft because their 360s have to be sent away for repair. They bash Microsoft because 360's failure rate is absolutely dismal.

I think a common failure, that happens to numerous people, regardless whether it's 30% or 5% (as long as it's over the acceptable range) deserves some kind of public anger.

Enough to issue a public statement with links for repair info? I'm glad they admit the problem right away, but to go and ask me for actual number shows that you have no idea how companies operate.

Can you prove that the number of RRoD disc read errors is above the acceptable range? No? Well, there you go. All the numbers are pure speculation only, Microsoft (or any electronic companies) doesn't release them for a reason.

Thank you for showing me once again why I think you are pathetic fanboy that uses any excuse to blast Nintendo now that they are wiping their asses with Sony.

This just in from Nintendo:

Nintendo should use this opportunity and call it "parental control"
