I imagen the NX will be BOTH a handheld and a home console; they will have certain shared features and compatabilities, maybe even some games. Releasing a new home console next year would mean that PS5 and XB2 would be severaly mpre powerful than Nintendos next effort. And we all saw how bad that went down this gen. 

Nintendo has no reason to care any more. Any chance they had of getting third party multiplats died when third parties gave up on Wii U even before they dropped PS3 and 360. Nintendo will get whatever exclusives they can rope in and whatever they can produce by themselves from this point forward.

What Nintendo needs to do to get third party support is drawing in that audience themselves first. Nintendo fans dont buy Ass Creed, GTA or CoD - Nintendo needs to make those kind of games first a d draw that audience to Nintendos consoles. And if they keep on ignoring 3rd parties and powerful consoles they might as well quit home console gaming all together; Wii U is a pretty good base line for Nintendo fans oit there. And theyre not enough to make home consoles worth it for Nintendo

And that's exactly part of the problem. The sooner they release the better. 3DS won't maintain great sales until 2017, so a holiday 2016 launch seems likely. Also, in 2014 Iwata mentioned that they needed around 2 years to show a new way of "changing gaming" or so.

Their strategy with Wii U announcing it 2 years before release, and a complete year without news didn't went right.

reassurance was unecessary. they clearly said they wouldn't port existing wii u/3ds games to mobile.

Confirmed NX is a video game related device, not QOL?

They specifically said "new dedicated gaming device codenamed NX".

It will a third console along with the wii u and 3ds I think games will be cross platform like smash bros, eg 1 ip same game

lol it works out of the box with it so call it what you will.  Works no worse than it does with a PS4.

just throwing out a concept- is it possible that Nintendo is going to release it's own smart phone of sorts that will be a mix of a video game handheld and a phone? that way they can sort of go into 'smart phone' gaming yet still retain their video game hardware and software sales (at least for the mobile division). obviously their games would only be accessible / playable on this new smartphone / handheld console

 

that's the only thing I can think of

If someone bought a New 3DS and feels betrayed by this, then that's on them... not Nintendo. The New 3DS is basically no different than the redesigned top loading NES and the SNES-2. It's the GBA Micro of the modern world.

Anyone who knows anything about the history of this industry knows that a true next generation handheld is right around the corner.
