GameStop Once Again Accepting PS2 Trade-Ins

Retailer re-opens trade-in program due to "high" demand for the aging system.

GameStop on Monday announced that it is once again accepting PlayStation 2 trade-ins.

The retailer stopped accepting trade-ins for the system, the best-selling home console of all-time, back in June 2013. But now, GameStop is getting back into the business due to" high" demand.

"The video game console that had captured millions of hearts around the world continues to breathe life," GameStop said in a statement. "The Sony PlayStation 2 is known for its vast library of games and being the top selling video game console of all-time. GameStop knows that a demand for this iconic piece of video game history is still high and will once again buy back PS2 consoles."

As of March 1, all United States GameStop stores will offer $25 in store credit to shoppers who trade in a system with a power cable, AV/cable, and one controller. If you've lost these accessories over the years, GameStop will still pay you $20 for the console itself.

GameStop encourages anyone with specific questions about the new PS2 trade-in program to contact their local store.

A whole $25? Wow!!

I seriously hate GameStop..

Current gaming platforms - Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Wii U, New 3DS, PC

So should start making them again, LOL! Relaunch the PS2, with wifi, and a 250GB HDD for $99 and then put as many PS2 games as possible on PSN for download.

They could potentially sell 10-20 million units to people who got rid of their PS2s but now have pangs of nostalgia. VGC could start tracking it and we could have threads about which will sell more LTD: PS2 2K15 or Wii U.

That doesn't seem that bad really, I picked up a second PS2 only missing an AV cable for $15. I usually see sellers going around $20 for them as well. It's fairly old by now and very common so I didn't really expect much more especially from GameStop.

Probably ran out of stock and just want to replenish.

Trade in today to receive Duke Nukem Forever and Sonic 06

They wish. If they want my PS2 collection, they'd have to buy each game from me at the original price.

Why stop there? I remember when Funcoland was FULL of NES, SNES and Genesis games, along with consoles. There were multiple kiosks running retro games... it was awesome.

That's a better idea then the vita tv

Seems kind of odd to accept games from a console that is over 10 years old already. I`d be surprised if people still have PS2s. Though I figure they should be pretty easy to pick up since they`re pretty common at any old game shop.

Maybe this is my one chance to find the Shadow Hearts games again.
