One thing that Nintendo fans are baffled by is the company’s recent naming conventions for their consoles. Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime says he is aware of confusion regarding the company’s product names, but believes calling the New Nintendo 3DS, the New Nintendo 3DS, really communicated to consumers that it’s an improved Nintendo 3DS device.

“We think deeply about all our product names and really try and come up with a naming convention that makes sense for the consumer that communicates what’s going on. We believe that this communicates that this is an improved version of the 3DS line.”

It's a cube that plays games, who could have ever thought of that name!!!!

Mario Kart Ds, Mario Kart Wii, Mario Kart 7, Mario Kart 8.... double dash, super circuit are only ones they bothered thinking of a name for.

The only name that affects hardware sales is the WiiU. I'm sure the names seemed good back in the day. And after the launched the system they realised what was wrong.

Wii U is their only misfire.

Sonically it could have worked if the casual market were still around, but communication wise it still sounds like an add on, peripheral or update system versus a completely new one.

Wii u should have just been wii 2... Did they freakkkxxxin forget the success of playstation 2!?!? I believe they have missed out on 6mil sales for wii u just cause of the name to this date... It even sounds the same! Wii u... Wii 2...

It also makes more sense as you can use the wiimote on many wii 2 games.. Imma start calling it that from now on

I don't think the WiiU is failing because of it's name. I don't even think the name is having any substantial affect on it's sales.

Oh, I can't wait to hear the next handheld called the new Nintendo 3DS U
