by Kevin Sanchez (3 hours ago) 1

Kenji Inafune’s Kaio: King of Pirates action RPG game for the Nintendo 3DS that was announced in 2011 is now canceled due to sudden changes in the market according to Marvelous.

Marvelous took a loss of 461 million yen (around 3.8 million USD) as a result of the cancellation of Kaio: King of Pirates. Kaio: King of Pirates was supposed to release on the 3DS in 2012 then it was later delayed to 2013 and then 2014.

Never heard of it so RIP! Maybe it will get a mobile port one day

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

Not surprising. The game disappeared after its reveal trailer.

Lol I was going to post this but I was on my phone. Slightly dissapointed as it was based on Three Kingdoms China but oh well. We never really saw anything on it and lets be honest the chances of bombing were high. SQEX, Sega and Capcom all failed recently with their cross media franchises, nobody can take a peice of the Youkai pie.

It looked cool, and then it was NEVER. SEEN. AGAIIIN....! What the hell were they doing with the game all that time...?

They only spent $3.8 million on a game that was announced all the way back in 2011?

They clearly weren't working on it during that time.

Huh I wondered what happened to it. I actually forgot about it a while ago.

Damn, I was looking forward to that game before I completely forgot about it.

Must not have had a strong enough gameplay or concept elements to last through tough changes in management and probably the development team. Even Rodea managed to revive itself after the initial game was abandoned along with the Wii.

Oh well..... never heard of this until the cancellation
