Comparing Handled and console in terms of market share is like comparing a Goliath (3DS) with David (PS4), no matter how hard console trying to compete it will be difficult, because people will choose handled more then console (due to it's price, portability, etc) , but this year is a weird year, is like watching David defeating Goliath.

But 3DS is done great no matter how we look at, but what is even great is PS4.

not bad for a system that was doomed to fail, still competing with the newer gen

Ps4, a year and a half old system. A 4 year old system.... I am surprised it isn't beating it by more.

True but ps4 is more than double the price of a 3ds

PS4 is also 100x more powerful, a full media player, and has all the mega selling AAA western titles plus the fact that the home console market is and always has been bigger than the handheld market in America.

Congrats to the PS4. But threads like this bother me because it seems the only time a "home" console should be compared to a portable is when it is beating it(usually in the case of the DS/3DS). But any other time they are separate and shouldn't be compared(I.E when NPD comes out and the portable is the best selling). So my thing is either they are always comparable or they aren't.....can't just pick and choose when it best suits you.....just my thoughts.

Ps4 also outsold the 3ds in Japan

Ps4 is still at launch price After 2 xmas periods.  3ds had monster hunter, MM along with a major new SKU.  This is big news.

Wait, tell me again how a niche game in the west (MH) and a remaster (MM) is suppose to be giant system sellers for a system with a slight upgrade from its predecessor with no notable exclusives at its launch? And don't forget that MH and MM both can be played on the original 3ds...

Monster hunter highly rated pretty much equalled the orders sales.  MM apparently one of the best games ever sold a shit load.  TLOUR moved a lot of ps4s and it's a re release.

The 3DS had a new model.  Yes only 2 weeks but months of pre orders are included.  It's also twice as cheap and the ps4 is still at launch price.

This is one hell of an achievement and definitely worth mentioning.

So wait... let me see if I understand this correctly. Two games, plus an upgraded 3DS that doesn't have amazing sales, is enough to take on a year and a half old system (still basically new) that has had the majority of their games in the top 10 for the last few weeks now, not just two and people start to lose their minds when it does over take it the 4 yr old system... Not to mention that the price doesn't really mean anything otherwise we'd see the Wii U doing a lot better as the Wii U is cheaper.... I still don't follow your logic very well

For 1  week with it being about a peak week outside of holiday/launch with a major (and other games) vs 3ds a 4year old HH that reached 18miil+, nno games released, and being almost at its lowest point in weekly avg?

I'm not sure what ur talking about, the home console market has always been bigger than the handheld market in America

Handheld sales gen 4-7, 165 million

Console sales gen 4-7, 290 million

I don't think MM has had that much of an effect since there's been 2 Zelda games already, BUT a new model that was hyped up and desired as much as new 3DS is a big boost.  I'm not saying it's going to continue to help it but the month that it launches is such a big boost for any new model.  Come on the launch week of the new 3DS is the only reason it's close right now.
