Forums - Nintendo - What has happened to Zelda this generation?

Huh? What's the problem? They brought back 2 Zelda games that haven't been touched since the N64 and reintroduced to a generation that may have completely missed those 2 games. LBW was one of the best Zelda games I played in a long time, and then there's Zelda U, which is looking to be an awesome game. Hyrule Warriors, that was a cool interesting way to expand the franchise to a different kind of game. Am I missing something? No problem here. o:

That's a good representation but in my case I am still upset that ALBW reused so much of ALttP. This might be fine, but this is coupled with the fact that Nintendo is remaking so many other Zelda games at the same time. It's been 4 years since anything genuinely new. This is still assuming Zelda U makes it this year. When you represent it by generation instead of year, it also looks even worse.

If I'm not mistaken, ALBW only reused the overworld of ALTTP. Everything else was different. It's like me getting upset about a good chunk of Dead Space 2 being set in the ship from Dead Space 1.

And really, it doesn't look worse. Last gen had two DS games that aren't seen as very high quality by most of the fanbase, coupled with a GCN port and a new game that required motion controls. In contrast, this gen we have a sequel to what's thought to be one of the best games of all time, 3 remakes of some of the best games in the series and a beautiful, original home console Zelda with the biggest overworld in the series. I'd say this is the best gen to be a Zelda fan, personally.

I don't think it's all that reasonable to get upset about the remakes, when they're not really taking away anything from the fans but rather filling time while we wait for the games we would've had to wait for anyways. You know what I mean?

Well, I enjoyed ALBW far more than TP, for what that's worth. And I had never played any of the three games that were remade until they were released on the 3DS/Wii U, so I'm glad they did that.

Either way, I think Zelda U will more than make up for it and will blow away any Zelda game from last gen.

-raises pitchfork- TP > Every other zelda.... Now ALBW was extremely fun, (not as fun as TP obviously) but I enjoyed what they did with zelda this gen. They just shouldn't do it next gen.

WW > any other Zelda.

But yeah, I agree. I've enjoyed what they have done with the series this gen, but doing something different is vital. That's what makes the Zelda series so memorable; each gen has fresh experiences that feel nostalgic yet have major twists that make them feel unique as well.

What more is there to do with Zelda nextr gen like they did with this Gen? TP and SS? TP maybe, but SS? Kinda unlikely I think. ; )

And if it was that way people would be complaining about them milking Zelda too much.

I'd be angry if I was a dead space fan and that happened. Personally, I really enjoyed PH. I didn't like ST because it had a shitty travel system and overworld. I think that last gen had a way better showing in new content then this gen. We clearly disagree on this and since this is what we are arguing over and it is entirely subjective, this is as far as anything can go.

If you are a nintendo fan, you will be accustomed to people making that claim so I think you will be just fine.

Of course. Agree to disagree, I suppose.

I hope they think like you. I hope they think remaking games more than once is stupid because that means I won't have to worry about any more remakes because at this pace, they won't have new content to remake. They did prove they aren't above reusing entire portions of games though so that's still unsettling.

You do realize that sequels use the same setting all the time, right? Like more often than not. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that, especially when the result is better than if they used a new setting.
