Forums - Gaming Discussion - So I'm tutoring a class of students grades 3-4...

They asked me if I played any videogames. I said that I did and they all looked at me like I was a "cool" adult. They then proceeded to ask me if I played
Call of Duty and I replied "I play Super Mario", to which I got a reply "that game is for kids". Seriously. Kids are saying this stuff. Kids are playing this stuff.
It is weird. I'm not for or against it or anything. I just don't personally remember anybody that age growing up who played Call of Duty type games or GTA.

I guess it says something if kids are thinking they are too old for Mario. But not this kid.

Are any of you surprised or has this been common knowledge? I mean I've heard of preteens playing these types of games but 8 or 9 year olds is just weird lol.

... you just figuring this out?? We all know kids play CoD and talk down on those who play games like Mario. CoD is a game for adults and that is the cool thing to kids, acting like an adult.

Luckily for me, it's Monster Hunter mostly. Some kids do play Mario though, so that's good, and Pokemon. : ) On the US side, it's not looking so good... : /

I shed a tear for humanity reading your post.....

Honestly, I'm not surprised at all, though. Mario, and Nintendo in general, lost its cool factor with the Gamecube and when FPS started getting popular. COD and Halo are the Mario of this generation and have been for awhile. I guess it kind of makes sense since none of these kids grew up on Mario or Nintendo being at the top of their game.

At least there's a generation of us that won't ever outgrow Mario.

It'll be awhile before I figure out how to do one of these. :P

I know kids who play either, both, or neither. Children's taste is just as diverse as adults.

When I was a kid we used to pick up butt ends out of the gutter and hold them in our mouths, we used to raid our Father's bedroom drawers for pornography or we used to spit and belch in public. These days kids play COD to pretend they're adults.

Super Mario reminds them that they're kids while it reminds YOU you were once a kid.

The PS5 Exists.

Kids want to be cool and edgy. Why do you think so many of them are all over COD and Battlefield?

Please indoctrinate them for a single gaming platform. We need new veterans for future console wars.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I played and watch my brother play Resident evil back then, I played tons of games that were not for my age, as I watched movies.
But I also played the "kids" stuff.
I'm still a kid and I still play them all. And I'm gonna catch em all! (yeah playing pokemon right now)
even if I'm in my mid 20. That's just how it goes :)
