I think with the ordinary looking stuff, they are intentionally portraying a tension between the SciFi and the normal.  Even if you look at NLA, it's very much designed in a way that segregates every day life - which is as close to earth as possible - from the alien world of Mira and the military aspects.  So I think they are going for exemplifying that tension.

Let's take a chill pill guys. This isn't a thread to discuss the graphics or to make sweeping statements like the above; and it definitely isn't the place to attack other users. Let's get back on topic, take a deep breath and enjoy ourselves again, else there will be moderations flying around.

This forum is for discussing with people, not to agree with what everyone says. It's a fact that xbx looks better than a ps2 game. So why should I accept what he says? Yeah, I don't like any of those costumes lol. I hope I can dress my characters normally. It's amazing to see the difference in quality between the human characters and the monsters you fight in this game. I'm glad they got their priorities straight, but it would be nice if the human characters were as detailed as the monsters. They look so lifeless.
