My theory for consoles is this: The console that gets ahead of other consoles by quiter a margin will only see the margin widen and widen. Developers see the console with the biggest userbase and make great games for it, which sells more systems, and more developers make more games. I think this is what happened with the PS1 and PS2.
I think developers waited for the most part for PS3 and Wii to be released, and are now deciding which console to put their best teams on. Who do you guys think they will choose? (Imagine each developer only has a couple AAA teams)

Xbox 360. Lots of users, and more importantly, they buy a ton of games. Many of the games will also see PS3 versions, even if it's not the primary development platform, just to maximize revenue. As far as the Wii goes, the only AAA teams that will be developing for it all work for Nintendo. I think you can already see this in the Wii's disappointing 3rd party upcoming release list.

If you really believe that, you'll have a big surprise... 3rd party developers are already shifting massive amounts of resources towards developing for the Wii, since it's obvious that it will be the highest-selling console very soon!

Only crummy developers who wouldn't be putting out good games anyway will do that. And guess what, people aren't going to miss those games. Hi, hope you enjoy the "resource shift" of those companies towards more My Favorite Pony, Barbie Adventures, and Spongebob-type games for the Wii. The Wii and PS2 will be duking it out to see who can get the most shovelware crap games on their systems.

Now think about this. Do you really believe that there are some great games out there that publishers are going to decide to move from the 360 or PS3 to the Wii? If you do, you're the one in for a MASSIVE surprise. Even if Wii owners would buy them -- and they mostly won't because they don't have Mario or Link in them -- the Wii's simply not powerful enough to handle it. And good God, the online? Come on.

A proper FF game, MGS, GTA, VF, you think any of those games will ever see the light of day on the Wii? No, but you'll probably get an improved percentage of DOGZ!, CATZ!, and BRATZ! games. Congratulations! That "resource shift" is a joke.

You theory would have worked previously, but this gen when one main console is so much more expensive than another one of the three then some people will just hold back on buying it till it goes down in price and will not go for the Wii if they are after games coming on the PS3...

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

Not being biased(i have both but not 360 yet) My personal opinion is that The wii is cheaper to make games for than the PS3 with more of a profit margin so I would have to say Wii. Only problem is Nintendo needs to police 3rd party release so the games are not rushed out with poor quality, look at spiderman 3 for the wii. Heck ps1 could push those filthy graphics.

All versions of Spiderman 3 were rushed and poorly done. The PS2 version got the shaft most of all. Spiderman 3 needed another 6 months of dev time on PS3, 360 and Wii. The PS2 version just needed to be scrapped and completely redone.

It goes back to the whole investors/corporate level, the game was probably rushed to come out with the movie(even thoguh 6 months woudld help)and the powers that be.rushed it cuz of the mentality.who cares if it is good, some parents will buy it, and we will make a lil bit!

Politics anymore,

In early 3D games having twice the processing power was huge because every decision you made was mostly determined by hardware limitations; the difference in what was possible on the Saturn/Playstation and the N64 had huge impacts on how games played. As technology improved the number of hardware limitations decreased and thus the impact extra processing power makes is much smaller. To illustrate this point consider the Difference between Doom II (released in 1994) and Half-Life (released in 1998) and compare it to the difference between Half-Life and Half-Life 2 (released 2004). I think that it is safe to say that the difference between Doom II and Half-Life is a much greater "real world" difference even though the processing power difference between what was possible between Half-Life and Half-Life 2 was far greater.

I think that's a key point. Graphics may have advanced on the 360 and PS3 this generation but gameplay has remained exactly as it was in 2001. The Wii has nothing to fear from the superior processing power of the 360/PS3 unless gameplay (not graphics) is provided that can't be done on the Wii.

In the meantime it is clear that the Wii can provide lapsed, jaded and non-core gamers with  new /accessible games that draw them into the gamesplaying community.

Yeah but that's what I'm sayin. There won't be alot of awesome 3rd party games in PS3's future if the developers put their best teams on Xbox360 and Wii games... I mean the only PS3 game that remotely interests me, personally, in PS3s near future is LittleBigPlanet.

There is a degree of truth to that Legend11, but the key word is 'degree'. The console that captures the mass market invariably has the broadest appeal and the broadest range of gamers.
