I'm wondering (if we did it long enough) could we possibly see a correlation between the position of the console in the top 100 and an average expected number of sales? I'll just pull something out of my ass to show what I mean because I'm useless at maths:

100: or less: 100k or less
50: 200k - 300k
10: 300k - 400k
05: 400k or more

It might be worth thinking about in my opinion. We'd obviously have to rethink those averages for the Christmas period. We'd also have to take every month's data and work out an average position for that one month. I'm not sure if just taking the months data would work because I think for this to work we'd have to have a daily update on the average simply because of stock being either lower or higher some days. The monthly would only really give us who won the month and the postion at the end of the month wouldn't necessarily reflect how many units could possibly have sold each day, if you get what I mean.

If the postions of JUST today are to be an indication of whether this is worth it then March NPD would be:

WiiU: less than 100k
XB1: around 250k (akthough 2 SKUs would probably put it nearer 300k)
PS4: around 400k

Everything PS4 is selling very good or decent, cards, games, acessories, etc...
I highly doubt that PS4 will be ever again passed by the Xbox, even in christmas.
Like i said before Sony played the market game right this time, PS4 value perception is just getting stronger.
All that end of year firesale give a little boost to Xbox, but the price they paying now is high, with the value perception of his product decresing together with sales.

If the XB1 closes the gap this Christmas by less than it did last Christmas, then I'm 100% behind your statement. I'm also 80% sure it won't close the gap by as much ... so I'm pretty much agreeing with you anyway.

If Halo 5 comes out in September as rumoured, then X1 may still make more ground up on PS4 at the end of this year than it did the last. Sony will definitely have to slash the price by at least 50 dollars some point around the holidays to remain competitive with MS, who will not only have Halo, but will no doubt cut the price again.

Alsotake into acount that the gap by november is going to be bigger than last year, so whatever the x1 takes, will look smaller in comparison. If last year was like 800k I belive, or rumored to be 1m, I dont know, by this holliday period it will be at least 1.2m.

Does anybody know how much the x1 took on november and december? I think it was like 550k, am I close? If right, that will be taken back by no april and the gap will grow from there.

The XBO will probabily close 400,000 this holidays, with around 300,000 in November and 100,000 in December...
For the rest of the year, PS4 will probabily make around 1,000,000 of gap, and by 2016, PS4 will starting to dominate all month... even November and December...
