Not really since I won't be using it...
When I play on PC mouse+keyboard is the way to go.

Kinda how I go these days, I remember 4 years ago I was playing Skyrim with a gamepad for at least 2 years, ended up going M+K later on when I found out how much better it was for it being an FPS RPG.

3rd person/racing games/platformers I'd use a gamepad still though (if I can rebind keys and the gamepad is fully supported).

I am surprised that Nintendo did not use the technology with touch-pad and haptic feedback. There were so many rumors before the Wii U release. It would have been more "natural" for Nintendo to do it. http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2012/04/rumour_vivitouch_to_demo_wii_u_haptics_tech_at_e3

OT yes I am excited for this, I think it can take some time to get used to but so did the mouse when it was new!

Well... I am not saying that at all... I am saying that games that don't have controller support like RTS games are designed with a mouse and keyboard for a reason and if you are going to play with a controller, you will be at a disadvantage. I agree that the steam controller will probably be better than a normal controller when it comes to games like RTS but it will still be no where close to the advantage that people will get if they use a keyboard/mouse, specially if you are using hotkeys and shortcuts as well as many other things which people do. If you are playing an RTS like sc2 which relies on heavy Micro and you use a controller, you are certainly going to lose whether it be an xbox controller or a steam controller.

Now, with that being said, if you think that the steam controller is great for ur sitution, great, I got no issues with that but for me, I will stick with an xbox controller because I don't need to play with a controller for RTS games or games that aren't ment to be played with a controller

Most people do not care about being ultra competive in strategy games, technically no PC game without controller support is meant to be played with a controller though..... I do not think anybody is making the arguement that the Steam Controller will perform on par with a keyboard and mouse but the majority of the people interested in a Steam Controller do not care.

Well, the question will certainly be exactly how many people do care about playing a PC game with a controller that was not ment to be played with a controller... Specially RTS games and other games. Its not even about being ultra-competitive since many non-competitive people play sc2... I don't even think games like command and conquer would work that well with a controller once you are versing someone online who uses a keyboard/mouse.

And yes, you could say that about the whole "no PC game without controller support is meant etc" but there are many games that are designed around mouse and keyboard for a reason and there are plenty of hotkeys and button combinations that are avaliable to keyboard users that you can't do with a controller because there just aren't enough buttons on the controller. If you really want to do it just for casual play, then sure but I doubt that will justify the purchase for most people if they already have a xbox controller which I am sure many do. We will see how well it sells but for me, I am not very interested cause I never really have the need to play games like sc2 with a controller cause even at the lower leagues and online arcade matches, I would probably lose

I know what you mean.. I tried playing a PC game ported from the X360 and rebinding the keys was terrible because that game was not compatible with the mouse =.=

The other thing I realised is, though Red Alert 3 back on PS3/360 worked somewhat well with the Command Wheel Interface that EA designed specifically for controllers it did still feel sluggish and wasn't as accurate but he could still have some good casual non competitive fun with the gamepad, provided RTS games code for the pad and incorporate EA's CWI since no other console RTS has that nailed down as much as EA did back in 2008.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9YxP9cpFlRw

In this vid you can see how the player uses the CWI and how the map functions with the R2/RT on the gamepad to enlarge it but it blocks a good portion of his screen if he wants to move more faster.

You can as far as I know create some control groups with the gamepad but you cannot make as many as the hotkeys on a keyboard and you do lose some functionality in the process like some comand orders and placing bookmarks on the map to access.

I recon if the SG was a success then it would entirely be up to RTS devs (the little that are left these days) to throw in controls and rebind keys for the gamepad and even then the pad would definitely need a CWI to get the most functionality out of it, a non CWI would look like such a nightmare.

Like I said I do not think that there are many people who are interested in the Steam Controller who care about being ultra competitive. Steam Controller will in no way replace the K/M but it is an option for a lot of people who do not care for gaming on a K/M which is why virtually every serious gamer I know plays on a console. I am the only one who really deals with PC games at all over this issue, I can probably get them into PC gaming some if there is a controller that works reasonably well for most PC games

Red Alert 3 played suprisingly well, it was not quite the same as with a K/M but it was not way behind imo. I am hoping the Steam Controller can give us a similar experience for most PC games

Will need to see how it fits in my hands before I decide...

Although, I'll say it looks like it could finally be a true keyboard/mouse replacement, for a lot of games at least.
