Forums - Website Topics - Is spam allowed in people's sigs? Where is the line drawn?

I've noticed a particular user's sig contains ads for another website. The ads are of the "get console free" type and in my opinion they are basically spam. The worst part is that they are presented in such a way that people not familiar with this site may think that they're a part of VG Chartz's paid advertising. I think it should be nipped in the bud now just to be on the safe side since there's always the chance that VG Chartz users could get burned with these kinds of ads.

Prizerebel is legit, though. I've used it before; they actually DO send you the items you order.

I don't think it is a matter of whether or not it is legit.  I think it is a matter of whether or not it is appropriate and whether other users should have to deal with it.  I agree with Legend, it is beyond what should be allowed in someone's signature.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

If it's a matter of whether or not it's appropriate, then don't you think people with huge signatures should have theirs dealt with as well?

I guess I agree, I have enough of the Win a Wii ads on the site.

wow thats excessive three full banner ads. I agree with legend that is not appropriate. the only ads that should be on this site are the ones that support it.

I do think there are a lot of people with unreasonably huge sigs. Not only do a ton of animated GIFs/multicolored text make your posts nigh-unreadable, they also might make loading a page slow as hell for those of us on weaker connections.

I'm thinking that a sig restriction limiting the length to 10 or so lines, eliminating the use of animated GIFs, and heavily restricting the use of other pics might not be a bad idea.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."
