Forums - Nintendo - May we discuss Fire Emblem: Awakening's DLC?

So I recently finished Fire Emblem: Awakening and I absolutely loved it!  So much so that I was thinking of buying some DLC.  However, I have some issues with the DLC in Awakening.

1. Selling Power:

DLC should not sell power.  It's ironic that I'm criticizing the game for doing this, when the power is the reason I want to buy it.  I am interested mainly in the Outrealm Skills.

2. Division of Fanbase:

When I StreetPass someone whose unit has DLC Skills, I can't buy his unit.  This is another issue with DLC that I do not want to support.  It is not a major deal in Fire Emblem because with the aforementioned exception of StreetPass, Fire Emblem is not at all a multiplayer game.

3. Overpriced:

I feel the Awakening DLC is overpriced.  Yes, the replay value is unlimited, and I assume I can buy once and use it across all save files, but $3 for one map is asking for a lot.  Now there are, however, two ways I can save money on this.  One method is buy the packs and get the savings from that.  The other is quite the opposite, to only buy the maps that give me the rewards I actually care about.  Recommendations?

So how do you feel about how DLC was handled in Awakening?  Should we oppose it?  I'd like to especially hear from those who have bought it.

I felt that the DLC was all extraneous stuff and it didn't feel forced into the main game in the least, so I never really cared. I feel like the first two points are moot (1 doesn't matter in single player games and streetpass isn't a big enough deal for 2 to actually matter) and the third point would only really matter if it felt like that content should have been in the main game, or if the main game didn't have enough content.

I loved it. Particularly for someone like me who had never played a Fire Emblem game before, the Gold and EXP DLC maps were a welcomed option for my first time through. I bought all the DLC just because I loved the game so much, but finding card-versions of past Fire Emblem characters that I could recruit didn't interest me much. Awakening's own cast is plenty large enough, and full of personality, charm, and humor.

Upcoming Games To Get

Definite: Kirby Star Allies (Switch), Mario Tennis Aces (Switch), Fire Emblem (Switch), Yoshi (Switch), Pokemon (Switch), Kingdom Hearts 3 (PS4), Monster Hunter World (PS4)

Considering: Fe (Switch), Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze (Switch), The World Ends With You (Switch), Ys VIII (Switch), Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition (PS4), Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Remix (PS4), The Last Guardian (PS4), Shadow of the Colossus HD (PS4), Anthem (PS4), Shenmue 3 (PS4), WiLD (PS4)

Yea, I mostly ignored the DLC in FE:A. It was one of the reasons why I hoped Nintendo would never do DLC with other games but they did with epic success cause the DLC on their other games were pretty epic! But yea, apart from the summer dlc (which was censored in NA), I don't really care for dlc in FE:A

It was okay... most were overpriced, but you could get the packs or select a few to get the ones you want...

I used to be strongly against DLC, but now, I'm more open to the idea. Day 1 DLC still annoys me though.

Buying for more skills may seem annoying, but this is basically the F2P marketing scheme, which is already popular. I don't really find this too much of an issue because the DLC are not necessary to enjoy the game fully. Sure, the skills can make your units OP, but they are not required to beat the game. Lunatic and Lunatic + are A LOT easier with DLC, but you still have to unlock them and these modes are meant to be difficult.

For the division of fanbase, this is not really the case. DLC players can still play with those without (unlike games such as Fantasy Life). You can still recruit the Streetpass characters, but they will lose the DLC skills

I felt that the DLC that I bought were mostly worth it...
...just the extra stories were not (Future Past, Harvest, etc..) but that really depends on how you view the extra content

Not in my country it don't. You can't show butts in America, that's way too lewd for a T-rated game.

Anyway I didn't buy any of the DLC, I thought it seemed like a lousy cash grab. They started on the wrong foot, though. The first DLC map was free, and the next two maps cost $2.50 apiece and were... completely identical to the first one. All they did was change the enemies I guess. What a lazy DLC pack. I think the later ones were done better, and even had new dialogue and stuff, but the first one turned me off of the idea, and I still thought $2.50 per map (or $6 for a set of three) was too costly.

If they had just had a few packs -- the Scramble set, the Future Past set, and a couple of other bonus ones -- and sold them for like $15 all together, it would have been more attractive. $15 worth of great DLC sounds a lot better than $50 worth of DLC that is really hit-and-miss.

I'm a hardcore FE fan...but I honestly only bought the first two packs. There was so much content in the main game, I didn't really feel starved for more content. I think I'd like to play through the main game again before I tackle what are essentially filler missions.

I"ll probably pick up the hot spring and Ike DLCs on my next playthrough though.

I will agree though that the DLC does feel overpriced though they are decent extras if you have some extra cash.
