I don't use WMA and the Wii already supports MP3, the only thing that doesn't is the photo channel, which uses whichever format the iPod uses (AAC?) and considering I haven't used the photo channel since December I'm not fussed about that either.

I would also pay 500 Wii points for DVD playback though... I wouldn't pay any more because I don't have that many DVDs to play on it.... I don't care about CD funtionality as I have CD player on the shelf below my Wii.

P.S. If the 360/PS3 had the Wii's library I would agree, however such simplistic logic as, "you want HD, buy this", really doesn't adress the issue so much as it paints an over-arching anxiety of the Wii entering into an area which many HD consumers felt they were safe from it in.

 Are you joking me? Wii is like $390 here in Sweden, it cant be that much cheaper in the UK.

My TV (Sony SXRD) already upscales it. The issue is not spreading the image across more pixels, the issue is having more discreet information for each pixel.

If the USB box had some sort of video card in it, and the Wii game took advantage of that video card by writing code for a 720p display, then you might have a better looking game. The problem is the USB does not have the bandwidth needed, and no one would by it.

Just get a PS3 or 360 if you want HD games.

The Wii looks great on my TV by the way. RE4 is the only game I have played where I was disappointed compared to my HD consoles (I have both the PS3 and the 360 as well). Even GC games like Super Monkey ball look great on the Wii with component cables.

 Ever since I learned that using consoles as a media player can shorten the lifespan of their optical drive, I've been glad that Nintendo didn't even bother implementing multimedia capability. Better off buying a stand-alone player or a media center PC.

And I totally second TRoO's thoughts that $150 HD = 3 games, so screw HD. My Wii is hooked up to an HDTV, but I seriously don't care about pixel density.

 it's not about pixel density but about image quality, and the image is only as good as the source that produces it.

Also, playing games shortans the life span of optical drives, it's just natural wear and tear that occurs becuase of the moving parts the optical drive has. 

^well it is about pixel density... if you upscaled an image from the Wii all would happen is extra pixels would have to be produced it can't make the graphics any better.

And the thing about using it as a DVD/CD player is that most people will have other DVD/CD players anyway... so if you are wearing down the drive in your game console and it breaks, then you still have CD/DVD players but you no longer have a games console.

I would probably pick it up just to check it out, if it was cheap. I got a HD-TV and I enjoy my component 480P Wii play very much, honestly.
