Still have SDtv. When I do upgrade it'll be because of the size of HDtvs not resolution. HD is worth something to me, but not very much.
Certainly not worth $150 just to get my Wii to HD.

DVDs are not meant to run at 720p or 1080p, but there is such a thing as an upscaler which can make them look better.
However you are probably right on the last part, having a forced upscale could make them look worse than just playing 480p or 576i on the HDtv anyway.
Leo-j said: You do know you are forced to purchase an HDTV, if by 2009 you have none you cant watch anything.
I assume you are thinking of digital... there is a difference between digital tv and HDtv... currently there are a few HD digita broadcasts, but most are still in SD, and they are not cutting off digital SD broadcasts, it is just analogue signals that are being cut off...so no-one is being forced to go HD at all....probably not for a good 15 years I'd say (considering that the vast majority of people use digital tv now, and have done for a few years, yet they still haven't forced digital on anyone [except perhaps in Japan].... this means it is going to be a long long time before HD broadcasts are forced upon anyone)
To summarise.
How you can watch TV now
--- using analogue transmitted signals
--- using digital, for instance cable, sky or here in UK freeview (which is a digital signal, but is transmitted the same way as analogue)
How you can watch TV in a few years
--- only using digital (cable/sky/freeview)
HD has nothing to do with it.

260 for Wii + 150 for upscale = $410 > PS3
Here's another one, for 50 dollars, if they enable CD and DVD playback via firmware, will you pay for it?
Soriku (Feb 10/08): In 5 years the PS3/360 will be dead.

^erm the Wii is $250 (unless you live in Canada) but that still doesn't make a difference because if the Wii were the same price as the PS3 it would still sell more (perhaps if PS3 hadn't been released at such a price it wouldn't have had a stigma attached to it though)

really? Because Wii is 280 here, and I thought it'd be slightly cheaper in US. hmm, DAMNIT, WE GOT SCREWED!

No, I wouldn't buy it even though I do have a HDTV, I would rather have a PS3.

Want HD games get a 360/PS3
Want to upscale your Wii to 720 / 1080 get a new amp, they all upscale from almost any signal source.
They would have to offer it at a nominal fee of $50 with a $50 price cut to the Wii while at the same time intigrating a new model with the feature already built in.
For those upgrading their pre-existing Wii's with the Item, it would most likely be the same size of the Wii or smaller to act as a second tower and would most likely come with a new base to hold both the Wii and the device in place.
