The next possible MK game I can see coming is on the handheld. Maybe it's possible, but I'd say 2018 the earliest. 2017 seems too soon for another one.

This would be a very good launch title, it's true. But I'm not sure they could do it. If the console launched in 2018, maybe then. But who knows, any things possible. They do have a pretty robust looking HD engine already built.

It's too soon to tell. Once we have a clearer picture of what Nintendo intends, then i think we'll see. If Nintendo's going to do a fused handheld/home setup (or even just a setup where 90% of the first party libraries are the same), then they'll want to come out swinging with the big boys up front, which means that Kart could indeed run in early 2017 (i think the new platforms will launch next year)

OT: I somewhat agree. Maybe add a year or two, but a new handheld Mario Kart arriving in 2017 would definitely not surprise me.

Nintendo would be smart to have all their big titles ready to release a sequel for the first year of their next consoles. They need to throw everything at it and get a good start. Better off drawing a line under this gen. No point releasing sequels for their biggest titles in the last year of the Wii U or 3ds and then not having another proper sequel for 2 years into next gen.
