Forums - Nintendo - Can a console beat the Wii record in the NPD sales?

Will a console ever sell more than 3.81 million in a NPD?

Nope, it is insanity... 30 68.18%

I think that is possible. 14 31.82%

Total:44

I think it might be beaten eventually, but only if consoles as hardware stay around for more than 15 years.

Bets:

1. If the Wii U sells closer to 10 million LTD by 1/3/2015 I win. If it sells closer to 9.5 million LTD by 1/3/2015 OfficerRaichu15 wins (winner gets 2 weeks of avatar control)--Lost.

Are you sure dear italian that DS hasn't sold more than that?Also,what the fuck..Not even all current consoles combined cannot reach that number...I think.Unless this happens this december with New3ds+ps4+xb1+and the wii u after zelda and maybe being quite cheaper!:P

Now that you said this!

This December: XBO+PS4+WiiU+3DS+PSV= 3.84m VS 3.81m Wii. So fucking close... D:

But as i said, i talking about even 9 gen or 10 gen!

Who know that maybe, Nintendo will released a new 4DS that will sell more than DS? XD

This gen it won't happen, but next gen(s)? Never say never.

There will no doubt be changes to the climate in the future as well. If Apple were to ever release a home console or iDevice that competed in this segment, I could see them pulling these kinds of numbers.

Apple may be Apple...However that doesn't mean all of its products will be  super successful,look at it's pc division...

You're right, success is never a given but they certainly have a rabid following and the business sense to support such a piece of hardware;

Beyond that, you're looking at their marketshare compared to windows in the same way that many others do and it's not as clear cut as that.  Windows doesn't sell PCs it's just an Operating system which is supported by many hardware manufacturers.  Apple makes their own OS AND their own hardware.  I'm willing to bet they sell more PCs than any other single hardware manufacturer; Since no one else can use the OS though, it'd also make sense why they only own a small portion of the market.  Windows is to Mac as Android is to iPhone. SteamBox would be the same thing vs an Apple Console. It's always all these companies on an open platform, vs one company on a closed platform.
