Forums - Nintendo - What if Nintendo were to lower the DS' price to $99?

.. I mean, I know they don't have to at the moment, because it's still selling so insanely well, so they probably won't for some time. But with the PSP picking up in sales during the last months due to good games and price reductions I'm guessing Nintendo will introduce a price reduction of their own sometime in the foreseeable future. I believe PSPs sell for around $170 now, and DS Lites for about $140-$150, depending on where you go. That's not that big of a difference. If Nintendo lower their price it'll probably be to $129 or so, which will naturally increase sales, but I think if they were to go as low as $99 (an extremely attractive and mass-market price), things may get crazy. Crazy. It may be the end of life as we know it.

Any thought on this? If/when it will happen and what the results will be?

It would sell even more... However, it still sells out here in the US so there is no need to yet.

Nintendo still doomed?
Feel free to add me on 3DS or Switch! (PM me if you do ^-^)

There will be so much DSes produced that somehow it will become self-aware and take over the world.

They are still selling lots of software and the Wii is picking up the slack. I see them releasing a new model before they lower the price. That way they can keep the price higher on the new model.

DS is $129 right now, but yeah, '$99' just sounds so nice when you look at a price tag.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Ds is still selling very well, maybe even up to limited supplies, itll be a long time for it to be $99

It's already $129? :p Lol, didn't know that. It's more expensive where I live. Ah well.

Oh, and yeah, people, I know it's still selling well and that therefore there's no need for a price reduction, hence my first line. :p I'm just saying, what if?

Mesoteto just described it in his pictures, there be a large crowd wanting DS

I think because its selling so well at its current price that the system will enjoy a very long life (like most Nintendo handhelds). If there does become a point that sales drop they can use a price drop to encourage purchases again. Model changes will help push more units too.

What were GBAs selling for a little while ago. I saw them for $50 brand new at retail, so the DS has a lot of life left in it.
