Forums - Gaming - If the PS4 was $250 at launch...

King of a weird hypothetical, as a $250 ps4 probably wouldn't be anything like the $400 ps4 we have now. The wii came out that cheap because it incredibly underpowered, roughly the same as the GameCube. So assuming the same for the Sony, a $250 ps4 would be roughly the same as a PS3. If that was the case, and it didn't have a hook like the wii with motion controls, honestly I think it would have flopped...

What?  I don't think he mentioned underpowering it.  I think he's saying if they just ate the cost like with PS3

Geez guys, play along. He means if the PS4 was exactly the same as it is now for 250$. Stop being so serious about money and such.

It would have extreme supply constraints to this day.

If sony did the ps3 right and made billions with it instead of losing billions they could have afforded it. Would be a massive waste of money. It would be a frontloaded gen for it for sure

It would have sold exactly the same amount of console.

The PS5 Exists.

Sony would have sold every single unit they could manufacture for a good three years. It would be like the PS2 or Wii for that period.

Side effects include PS3 sales falling off hard, X1 struggling to compete and slashing its own price and Nintendo being a distant third and yet only one turning a profit.

Probably but they'd be selling at such a loss and bleeding too much money that they probably would have gone bankrupt from it all, that and constantly being out of stock which screws with demand.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

Let's assume that at $400, they break even.

At $250, they would lose $150 for each console they sell.

20,000,000 consoles x $150 loss = $3,000,000,000 loss

They would have definitely sold more consoles (maybe 5 million more), before going bankrupt.

didn't even think of the still $250 PS3 lol.  That would be pretty next pricing

how about a hypothetical where xbox one was only $100? yeah I dont get the point of thid thread....

For the first few months they could not have sold any more than they did... maybe they could have produced 2 or 3 million more and be close to 22 or 25 millions by now? it would certainly be out of stock everywhere still...

There is a natural demand for the PS4, lowering the price would probably not yield much more demand, so Sony will keep it around 400$ as long as they can, at best you can expect bundles for the forseeable future (I hope they cut the price at next E3... but then, I have been wrong pretty often about that sort of thing.
