Shadow1980 said: So, it appears the XBO is up only 7% from last January. Not too great considering it's $150 cheaper than it was last January. But the PS4 is down almost 30%. While this isn't unprecedented — the Wii was down big time in its second January compared to its first — and it certainly isn't bad numbers-wise considering it's still at $400, but I think if it's still down YoY through the rest of the quarter, Sony may institute a price cut by this summer. The PS2's first price cut was in May 2002, while the PS1 & PS3 already had their first price cuts in their first year. Even with solid games, sales aren't going to grow until they cut the price. |
Dat spin, only a select few can try to make a 7% increase look bad and a 30% decrease look good.
BraLoD said: Is that only me or the PS3 will actually beat the 360 next NPD? PS3 started to rise on Amazon late January and it's doing it now in February when the 360 is nowhere near to be seem there. With a supposed gap of 5K between both (the 360 should be the one ahead as the 8% is green), it's very possible the PS3 is getting the lead in the next NPD. And if the PS3 is starting to actually beat the 360 in the USA... yeah, no way the 360 is ahead of it in sales. Maybe in shippments, definitely not in sales, if it can't beat it in USA it doesn't have a hope of doing that WW. |
Yep. Made a thread about that. Using the shipped numbers, as well as reports of overshipping of the XBO, to estimate the PS3 is ahead by a few 100K. Some on here wish to think the 360 is ahead by more than 1M. Highly doubt it with sales this close in the US, 360's strongest region, during non-holiday months. This is even closer than last year, when sales were only ~20K in 360's advantage. Something completely erased by sales in Japan. If the ~5K difference continues, the PS3 is going to outsell it this year by quite a bit. I mean one week of Japan's sales has a potential of completely erasing the 360's gap in the US for the entire month.
And it seems the PS4 is slightly overtracked, while the XBO is overtracked by quite a bit more.

More like most people see the 7% increase as bad. It was shockingly unexpected. Heck, it did worse than the original Xbox when it had its second January. PS4's drop was not surprising.

Well XB1 just came off a record holiday season, but of course the faithful here would ignore that.

Well that makes it even worse. If the XB1 can't maintain momentum, then that doesn't bode well for the future months.

My gosh some of you guys are hilarious. So going up 7% from last January is not keeping momentum, but losing 30% is, that you for the logic.

Who said the PS4 kept momentum?

The XB1 suffered higher drop from Dec. to Jan. Going up 7% from last January when it is $150 cheaper with 2 free games is not what I call maintaining momentum. I find your logic to be very questionable.
