Forums - Nintendo - Where is the Wii/DS connectivity?

Something I noticed that has started to bother me is that we haven't seen many games which demonstrate Wii/DS connectivity, and Nintendo has yet to release anything which connects the two systems together outside of games (like a Wii Channel). The reason this bothers me is that there are (potentially) or soon will be as many people who own a Wii and a Nintendo DS as there are that own a PS3 or possibly an XBox 360. From my perspective this looks like a missed opportunity for both Nintendo and Third Party publishers alike ...

They did advertise that capability early on.

My guess: They're A) going to do it eventually, but have various games to finish first, and B) waiting to lengthen the Wii's popularity and features, for the same reason that they don't give us every game in existence on VC today right now.

Japan has DS demos available for download on a Wii channel, Everybody's Nintendo or something like that, so the US should get something like that this year I imagine.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

It is surprising that despite the natural and obvious potential for such a connection, we've so far seen less put in to this form of connectivity than we did between the Gamecube and the Gameboy advance.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

I agree with BenKenobi. Too many features at the beginning is an overload and few will be fully developed properly. Too many features->less creativity using them->gimmick.

What kind of connectivity were they talking about? I mean I know about the connectivity with the PSP - PS3, but I'm curious to know what Nintendo had planned.

From 0 to KICKASS in .stupid seconds.

I think Come WIIWARE we will see more info on such a connectivity...

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Yeah, I'm sure Nintendo's a bit hesitant about using this technology. Look what happened with the GC-GBA connectivity. My guess is Nintendo'll incorporate more DS connectivity in Wii games eventually. But moderately.

Then again, it could be a huge opportunity, seeing as how both machines are immensely successful, and with the connection being wireless and so on. Compared to the mess that was GBA and all its necessary wires. Still, Wii Four Swords would be AWESOME! :D

Geometry Wars: Galaxies.

That's where your search ends and begins.

I'm sure they could do something like the PSP/PS3 connectivity.

Could the DS handle something like Remote Play? Being able to play NES/SNES/GEN games via Remote play would be pretty cool for DS/Wii owners.

I know with Geometry Wars Galaxies you can open up an extra level by connecting with the Wii game, but I am not sure I can justify both.

Final* Word on Game Delays:

The game will not be any better or include more content then planned. Any commnets that say so are just PR hogwash to make you feel better for having to wait.

Delays are due to lack of proper resources, skill, or adequate planning by the developer.

Do be thankful that they have enough respect for you to delay the game and maintain its intended level of quality.
