Forums - Sony Discussion - Opinion Piece: Sony Likely to Acquire Ready at Dawn Following The Order 1886

They are ND god-tier in terms of graphics and people with talent. With a hand of Sony, they'll likely become god-tier at everything else in the future, so it can be great for both.

...Let the Sony Domination continue with the PS4...

I'll never understand how/why some people hope certain games turn out bad. If you're not interested just ignore threads about the game. Real gamers would hope that every game turns out good. It only means more for you to play.

OT: Saw this article days ago. Wish GoogleNow had a speculation filter :(

Even if the thread title is the same as the article's, there should be enough responsibility on this forum from either the members or the moderators to precede the title with a clear note that the content is pure speculation from an opinion piece.

More specifically on topic, I find the suggestion to buy RaD on the basis of 1m sold copies laughable. Such a number would constitute a flop for a game that has been in development for several years. But even that aside, Sony hasn't bought any studios in recent years and instead closed quite a few inefficient ones or sold them off (SOE being the most recent example). Furthermore, there is no point in buying up a studio that already develops pretty much exclusively for a console manufacturer.

Well they didn't even start hiring developers to begin work on The Order until early 2012.  I would assume that development actually got underway halfway through that year.  Then, it was certified gold halfway through January of this year so thats like... 2 and a half years to make?   The Studio as a whole is estimated to be between 50-200 members ala their LinkedIn profile.  Considering that it's a new IP, only a Single Player mode and it has a relatively short play through time, I really don't see how this game could've cost that much for Sony. So realistically speaking if this game sells 1 million copies, it very well could be commercially successful.

I think that Sony is more keen on critical response at this point because again, it's a new IP and significant sales won't come until the second iteration anyway; With that being said, this is a game that was built to make profit.  Short dev time, small dev team and only one console to code for.  All in all what's going to make SCE want to purchase this studio is their current ability and future potential.  It's almost like this game is a 'test' to see how they perform with their first IP / console exclusive.  They made it to the big leagues now.

This is freaking AWESOME! I love Ready at Dawn. ♡

I don't see the logic in this assumption.

Insomniac were arguably one of their most important partners last gen, and they have made one of this gen's most important releases on a rival.

Yes, Ready at Dawn are capable of overachieving based on the budget/hardware they're given, but why would Sony choose to buy them for that when they're more looking to offload on inhouse expenditure?

idk if you read the article. But sony or Ready at Dawn haven't said anything. This is pure speculation from an unknown website. I would be the equivalent of vgchartz putting out an article stating that Apple is buying Microsoft because of how well Office for Mac sells

They're just trimming off the fat, the excess.  Seeing as the company will revolve around the Playstation platform moving forward, it would make absolute sense for them to reallocate funds toward acquiring dev teams, investing in IPs and whatnot.  The main risk being that if you don't, someone else could.  As far as SOE goes they operated on a different level and hadn't been financially successful in years.

I think if they wanted to be purchased, Sony would own them already. Maybe it's a situation like Insomniac, where they don't want to be bought.

I chuckled about this supposed bashing of The Order based on nothing but popularity.

I really don't see this being possible at all unless the game is a smash hit beyond expectations, and at this point, nobody knows exactly how the game will do with critics. It also doesn't seem like Sony is "grooming" them up for acquisition like they did with Media Molecule, and their other recent acquisitions. Unfortunately if the game flops, Sony will probably cut all ties with them.

Insomiacs games werent the best ones in the graphics department unlike with naughty dog, their shooters never delivered the fame sony excepted and now its too late to buy them. I think sony thinks different than MS and other companies. They dont go out to buy something that is allready big and expesive, they rather buy something really cheap and invest into it to become big.

before the Order RaD made nothing but ports, and now with just a little bit of sonys money they are allready delivering one of the best looking games in this generation.

Its seems very likley sony will buy them
