Forums - Nintendo - Release Wii in China and other developing markets/countries

If you hadn't heard it,it's rumored that nintendo will release wii and ds in china and other emerging markets!Wait for me to find the source!:P

This needs to happen! Nintendo just needs to be vigilant about piracy and some games that allow you to hack it will have to be disallowed, or have those features that make it happen shut down. I think this could be huge for Nintendo and I have been saying this for a while!

I agree Nintendo should release their products in more places in general. If there's one thing they should copy from Sony it's their way of shoving hardware to every niche of the world. For Wii it's probably too late now, even for China it's an outdated piece of hardware. They should have done it maybe a year or three ago. On the other hand it would be extremely cheap to produce and they'd be selling with profit anyway. It obviously isn't too late for WiiU, though that may be too expensive for the Chinese market.

About iQue; it's basically officially licensed hardware. The iQue company sells it on their behalf and I don't believe Nintendo adds it's sales numbers to their own. We don't know how well it does. They indeed had an N64 version of it, but also a DS and now a 3DS version. Not sure about GBA. Maybe with iQue DS's included, DS actually overtook PS2 .

Lol op your comment makes it sound like china is a developing country, its a powerhouse of an economy now

The iQue is still around? :O I will have to check some online websites later to see where exactly it's sold. I know for sure it's not sold in retail stores, and I have never seen one in any markets. And if it's still around, why don't they market it! So crazy. I visit pretty much every big national gaming website and have never seen anything about it.

I can see X1 and PS4 ads now and then, and some booths where I can try the games but iQue... Are you sure it's just not a "April's fools joke" gone too far? They forgot to announce it was a joke and now they feel too embarrassed boot it so they pretend it's still around. :P

China might be powerful but we are still a developing one as well, most of the country actually needs to be developed.

But in term of economics are ye not the leader in the world? How much money does the us owe china for example?

Yeah, Wii is outdated, it was pretty much outdated even when it was released, but I'm not sure if that matters much if other things work in its favour, like, what I believe, would be pretty low price.

I would love to know what is adoption rate of HDTVs in China (maybe wangjingwanjia can chime in with more info on this), so if lot of households still have CRTs, Wii is still very good choice with its great library - specially given that one of the main markets for Wii, pre-teen kids, really don't care much about jaggies and similar stuff (which I can attest to with my kids, as their Wii is still connected to old CRT).

The problem with that is piracy. The Wii is very easy to hack or mod, and having into account the massive uses of piracy in China and in other areas, sales would only focus on software (if they focus at all). Also, Nintendo had a console in China, the Nintendo iQue (basically a modded N64). And I don't know if it made a profit.

What about the Wii Mini? It doesn't have an SD Card slot IIRC.
