You list has 4 NES games, 2 SNES ones, 1 for PS1 and one for PS2. A 5 year old DQ game for NDS that sold 4M and a 1M game for 3DS.

3DS is outselling the PS4 3:1 in Japan now. We are talking about the future here. 2 years ago people tough PS4 wouldn't outsell 3DS. 1 year ago it was crazy to think it could outsell Wii U + 3DS. Now it looks like it will do it without breaking a sweat. They are exceding expectations and it only takes some big hitters in Japan to get the win there.

Yeah, I provided a list of all of the mainline Dragon Quest games. A  series that has been consistent with its sales for over 20 years now . You are looking at remakes and mmorpg's as if they mean anything about the sales of a non-subscription mainline DQ game. Like I said, it is like predicting FFXV will sell closer to FFXIV than FFXIII because FFXIV is the more recent title.

Sure, the 3DS will sell less than the PS4 weekly at some point in the future, that is a certainty. It is an older platform and has a shorter lifespan left in it. Still I can see the 3DS outselling the PS4 in Japan in 2016, unless Final Fantasy XV releases and boosts its sales a lot.  Japan has very different trends from the rest of the world. It is illogical to try to extrapolate Japanese sales from such worldwide trends. Not even the Wii would sell 60k weekly on a consistent basis in Japan, and this is when Japanese sales are LOWER in Japan for the 3DS than they have been.

The install base isn't important if the games are selling just 1M. The DS entries varied between 2 and 5M. It isn't a number that can't be reached by the PS4 that has a higher software sales ratio. And we can't affirm that it will keep selling better than PS4 since it's down YoY and pretty much starting phasing out.

How much has Dragon Quest 8 sold on PS2 in the West? Do you know that?

news: Game Watch quizzed Square Enix on the potential of an overseas release of Dragon Quest Heroes during an interview at the Taipei Game Show.

“I want to proceed thinking positively,” Square Enix’s Ryutaro Ichimura said in response to the question of a western release. “Since we were able to announce the Chinese version in Taiwan today, seeing that reaction, I want to spread it even further around the world.”

Game Watch asked if a potential English version would include the option to switch between English and Japanese voice-overs.

“We haven’t decided anything about that yet, but if it’d be better to put it in, that’s something we’ll consider moving forward,” Ichimura said.

well.. good news. write square enix = )

Very conflicted. I like DQ, and Jessica was a highlight in an already great game. But...it's mussou (or however you spell it)...and I hate those games... =/

the gameplay video looks fun.

but a JRPG is more important for you and me. thats for sure! : )

Bottom line is sony would need to offer some incentives. Nintendo are not over flowing with cash right now and might not be eager to invest in the Wii U and 3ds anymore when a successor will be out in 2 years (my guess). So sony have an opportunity to write a few checks get and get some big Japanese games onto their systems. If they got a full new sequal to dragon quest and monster hunter on the ps4 that would shift millions of ps4s. And it would make it easier to get more in future. These developers won't want to develop home console games for Nintendo when they see the ps4 beating the Wii u so easily in Japan on a weekly basis. Sony's biggest threat in Japan are the Nintendo handhelds. Pity nintendo can't get the handheld versions and Sony the home console ones.

The issue with that is the main series of both these franchises are handheld games. Dragon Quest went handheld with IX and Monster Hunter with MH4. In the future NIntendo will have a unified platform (with different form-factors) so that makes it tougher for Sony to compete in the Japanese space. If DQ XI releases on the next Nintendo handheld it is also going to be playeable on their next home console. Making a separate console entry of the game moot. Sony is also going this path though with their interconnectivity with tablets and PC's. As it stands now the 3DS is on track to becoming a 20 million Japanese console, while the PS4 would be lucky to match PS3 sales in Japan. The Wii U is also remaining competitive in Japan, and unless Monster Hunter and/or Dragon Quest DO come to the PS4 as exclusives, I can't see that changing.

I've never played a Dragon Quest game; but if you're into that series, and its as simply but pleasant as Hyrule Warriors it should be a good time filler. Enjoy it, but since Dragon Quest is an RPG you should have the warning its more of a simple thrill than a mental engagement!

that could be a double edged sword. people who previously bought both a nintendo handheld and a home console might now only get 1. their market share in the industry could plummet 2 generations running. although it would probably prove a profitable venture.

What I have to say about this?

Hey cool Dragon Quest game on Wii!

Meh fucking on rails game....

Hey cool another Dragon Quest game on Wii and its called X/10 so this time its a real game woohoo!

Meh fucking mmorpg and not even coming to the west....

Hey Dragon Quest game coming to PS4?

Meh Dynastie Warrior style game well at least much much better than on rails or mmorpg. So I will give it a chance especially since Hyrule Warrios the first DW style game I ever played is quite cool (in coop. Singleplayer is somewhat repetitive)

btw I know its not really a DW game but its the closest thing I can think of.

I don't think calling this a Musou game is fair. It's similar to other Tecmo series like Zill O'll series.

"We'll toss the dice however they fall,
And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

Yeah, but their software sales would likely remain the same as they can produce more titles, and that is where most profit comes from.
