Looks Baten Kaitos-y to me. I'd flip my shit if that's what they're working on after Xenoblade X. Card management on the touch screen of the WiiU? Yes please!

Year? XCX makes the year. Baten Kaitos 3DS would make the generation for me! |
Well put! I'm already excited about Xenoblade Chronicles X though, so as long as the actual product is as awesome as it looks now, I'll be golden. A Baten Kaitos announcement would be way out of left field at this point, but I'll keep my fingers crossed...
Hmm
As others have already pointed out, it looks like they are from the Baten Kaitos game for DS/3DS. Wasn't that cancelled?

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!
Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.
Baten Kaitos?
Not at all, this is clearly Soma Bringer style art. Baten Kaitos is an old series owned by Namco.
I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.
Baten Kaitos 3DS was rumoured way back in 2011, shortly before the press event in which Nintendo announced a number of new 3DS games, like Monster Hunter 3/4 and Fire Emblem: Awakening. The art style is very reminiscent of the pre-rendered backgrounds used in those games, and given Nintendo's close relationship with Namco, I don't think it would have been too hard for them to get hold of the IP.
This could have been shelved, but given Nintendo keep projects on the go in the background (Link Between Worlds/Majora's Mask 3D both had protracted development cycles), it's possible this project was downgraded in order for Monolith Soft to help on a number of more commercially important projects. Given Nintendo's struggles to keep up with HD development, it's also possible this project was greenlit before it was clear how many resources and how long a development time X would need. Now X is wrapping up, we may hear more about this.
Personally I think Baten Kaitos is a great fit for Wii U or 3DS, but is more likely to come to 3DS.

This actually looks like something right out of Bravely Default imo. Different developers and all, but still interesting. |
The architecture from this is similar to the one in the first town of Bravely Default. I definitely agree with you.

I thought that they were hiring 3D modelers for it and then it dissappeared from the radar. It's not out of character for Monolith Soft to do that though. Whatever it was could still be indevelopment as a backburner until Xeno X is finished.

We agree so much, that I wrote the same thing in another post even before reading this. Lol. I also think it's a backburner project. It's not a Xeno, so it isn't going to be on the "must release" list. I think we will eventually see whatever game this was supposed to be in one form or another.
