Yesterday, I bought a online code of Xbox Live gold for $40 on Amazon and I can't redeem it. I keep getting the message "Something went wrong Give it another try. If this happens again, let us know by entering the code below at xbox.com/errorhelp so we can investigate."

Is it something to do with the system, or is it because Xbox Live is currently limited?

And before someone ask, Iv'e tried to enter the code on the website.

Xbox Live is currently limited. I would advise you to wait a bit, as I purchased a product via the Xbox store, had a problem and the money deducted from my account, but couldn't download the item afterwards (nor it showed as I had purchase it).

Could be that you didn't enter the code in correctly would be nice if they had shorter codes like PSN. Those long codes are kinda a pain.
