Forums - Gaming Discussion - Are console makers deliberately caping speeds? (US)

Hmm when I do the test over a wireless connection I get 30 down and 5 up (which is what my internet provider is supposed to give me) Maybe it depends on the time of day you're doing it.

They're not capping speeds. Their servers just get bogged down and if you have cable, then your neighbours are bogging your connection down. If you try at a weird time like 3am, you'll probably get more than 60 mbits down even though you're only paying for 60.

I have it hardwired. I have tried testing it between 1-7am and it never goes past 25. Every other device in my home gets 60 except my consoles. I even opened the ports on the PS4, still... no luck.

I would blame your ISP

Unless there is some vast conspiracy to cap ALL game consoles... it can't be my ISP. Every other device I own shows close to or slightly above 60 down. The only things that are running a third that speed are my consoles.
