Smash U since it's the only smash i've ever taken seriously.

To play: 64 > Melee > Smash 4 > Brawl

To watch: Melee > 64 > Smash 4 > Brawl

There is a pretty significant gap between the first two and the latter. Mainly due to less hit stun and shield stun being present in the more recent installments. All of them are fun to play casually though.

Smash for Wii U

I honestly believe that Smash is one of those series that improved with every iteration, so Smash U.

oh Melee is the best by far. most balanced and perfect replayability even 10 years later today

I've enjoyed them all fairly equally (aside from Wii U version as I haven't had enough time to play before factoring that in) but the original N64 will always have a special place in me.

Has anybody played the Smash Wii U with just the Wiimote? How are the controls? I've only ever used the gamepad.

Smash 64 > Melee > Wii U > Brawl

Never played a lot of the first 3 games, but I have a few issues with each one.

Smash 64 felt a bit primitive in every way.
Melee was very tough to pick up and the character roster was unbalanced.
Brawl had tripping (and other stuff but tripping omg).

I don't have a particular issue with Smash Wii U thinking about it (maybe air dodging, but even then I'm not so sure about that), and it's by far the one I played the most, so that would be my favorite. But I have to say, watching competitive Melee is awesome.

Edit: oh and of course, Smash Wii U gets some bonus points for having the most complete and awesome character roster ever.

Melee not balanced? are you kidding me? newer variations of Smash have way over powered smash attacks

Melee is great because the game is technically sound. in terms of competition play nothing matches it. I mean for gods sake in Brawl you could slip and fall randomly.... ..

From what I've seen, most people, including competitive players are overall happy with Smash Wii U, but there are still some "Melee elitists" out there who pretty much can never be pleased, unless they make another Smash game EXACTLY like Melee.

Oh, but you're wrong. If they ever made another game EXACTLY like Melee, which is what all of these elitists supposedly want, they'll start saying it's not as good as Melee and Nintendo will never be able to make another game as good as that.

But thankfully this is a minority.

Yeah, if this was a majority of the community, competitive Smash would probably be dead already.

Well, there are actually a few big competitive players that really have no faith in the game like Leffen, but I've always found that he comes off as a bit of a jerk.  Most people though that I see are either in Smash 4 is great so don't bash it or it's not like Melee or PM so it can't be competitive.  I wish that more people saw it as it's own installment since noone compared Smash 64 to Melee when it came out.  At least there are some big Smash players like HBox, M2K and even Armada who are giving the game a chance.

Although if we can all agree it's that Diddy needs a nerf :D
