Forums - Nintendo - Idea that would make Nintendo $1Billion

Thats certainly unexpected... I never knew Nintendo owned a sports team before loll. But imo, they should keep that card when they are in deep trouble instead of just selling it now when they are fine and are probably looking towards making profit in their next financials due to amiibos and other things

Nintendo's owned the Seattle Mariners for like 20 years now. Howard Lincoln, former NOA big works for the Mariners now.

They are cash solvent already, why would they sell the team if it generates income? Also, if they make a Mario Baseball game, they could use the team to advertise it.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

The reason why I thought Nintendo could use a big chunk of cash is because I always hear people complaining that they need to buy more devs and heavily invest in their next gen system(s). Can't think of a better way to get cash fast then by selling your billion dollar sports team.

When you're in good financial shape, you don't need to sell off valuable assets.

I wouldn't be surprised if some Microsoft execs wanted to buy the team :D

Steve Ballmer would pay 99$........................... x 10,000,000! XD

I think people need to realize something -- Nintendo doesn't want to expand. They are happy being a smaller company.

Iwata has said that if they got too big a lot of Nintendo's "culture" would be lost.

That's why even during the height of the DS/Wii when they were pulling in billions, they still refused to really expand in a big way.

Nintendo isn't being held back by cash. They simply don't want to expand.

I'm disappointed, I actually though you were going to say something insightful.

How will this solve in anyways the decline in 3DS and lack of interest in WiiU??? Nintendo doesn't have a cash flow problem!

Sorry you're disappointed! I know Nintnedo has a lot of problems right now but seeing as how they've been in the red the past few years, I thought they could use an infusion of cash. But like others have said, the Mariners do generate revenue, so maybe it's not the best play for them right now...

Long term, dude. Long term.

Bad business decision. If it's making them money, why sell it? They are better off at keeping them and continue to make money.

It's not like they can't pay thier rent and if they don't they go homeless....
