Thats true...its like, listening to Death of Autotune, which is supposed to be a huge diss song, and its so tame. It was supposed to stir shit up and it was just...forgettable

Astronautalis' "Do You Believe In Life After Thugs" is like lyrically everything DOA should have been (except it focused more on the underground then the mainstream) and it was just a joke song on some discrete release:

You're right in that there aren't that many outright protest songs any more, but I think generally cynical songs abound. Marina and the Diamonds, despite having more of a pop sound, is very critical of modern society in her lyrics.

The divide now is these kind of songs are not on television or radio. I'd be stunned to hear Anti-Flag playing in a shopping mall for example.
