Nintendo really should have made the Wii able to do hd. Many great games that really missed out in that respect

One of the focusses of the Wii was being affordable; the ability  to do HD would have meant a beefier GPU and a higher price tag.

for the 3 years it was highly saught after they couldn't ship enough to meet demand. a higer price tag wouldn't have shifted demand too much at all and the console might have flourised a lot longer and with better 3rd party support. it was def their achiles heal.

You don't know that. Real demand curves usually aren't linear. A higher price-point could very well make people's willingness to pay much less.

A stonger GPU could have brought with it the problems that plagued PS3/360 early on; reliability problems, overheating.

Zelda SS doesn't look sooo good. I like the SD of the Wii better...

Well, to be fair 1080p is a bit more than 5 times the resolution of 480p. (around 5.14, actually). It's crystal clear that upscaling and adding AA to 480p games is gonna make the look incredibly stunning, especially in a comparison.

Sure, but I'm arguing that the higher image quality reveals more than a clear picture (no artifacts.)  You actually see details that weren't as noticeable at 480p. For example, I hated the depth of field in Skyward Sword when I originally played in on Wii. It looked pixelated and messy. When played at 1080p it actually looks like the painting strokes that they were originally going for. Now some people still didn't like the depth of field, and they remove it, but I think it is one of the nicer graphical features of SS. Or in Super Mario Galaxy/Sonic Colors, without the blur the textures and effects look pretty high quality (even before rendering at 1080p, but you notice it even more with the clearer image.)

Also this isn't upscaling 1080p, it is rendering.

All last generation people kept saying gameplay over graphics and Wii is the best. Now they see what their games would look like in HD and all they can do is gush over the visuals

And I stand by that.

Eh? Who said anything about graphics > gameplay in this thread, thus contradicting their previous opinions? There is a difference between appreciating better graphics and not playing games because they don't have good enough graphics. Also, sorry but XB360 games did not run at these resolutions. They ran at sub-720p with crappy AA (if they had AA at all.) To me, as a PC gamer, they might as well been 480p. That isn't that great of an image quality. I was just thinking how much I wish there were fully developed PS360 emulators so that I could play their exclusives at 1080p and see what detail was missing from the poor image quality.
