Wow shit PSP can handle a single "3D POLYGON" !?!? That power!

| Areym said: Can't argue that. Still, it can't be denied that 6th gen belonged to the PS2. It's not the highest selling console of all time for nothing. I mean come on, I'm pretty sure 21.7mil gamecubes sold compared to 155mil PS2s sold is getting destroyed, sales wise. |
Sony does make good hardware. :p
(Besides the PS3 which was too complicated and expensive for its own good).
Sony hardware/software + Nintendo's software would be the best console to ever exist.
Wow, they really were cocky back then. Also, PS2 at 51 million units shipped worldwide by 2003... double damn! I didn't follow E3 conferences back then. Hell, I didn't know it existed until a year later. And with those boring and stern looking PowerPoint slides, it's obvious it was geared towards the journalists mainly.

Nintendo made more profit than Sony during the PS2 days. I wouldn't call that destroying.

Hum, can't argue with numbers. But I'd say Nintendo only had more profit because Sony spent all their PS2/PSP money on the development of the Cell. We all know that was EXPENSIVE, and they still had some pretty good profit. So we'll just have to imagine how much money the PS2 made.
Especially seeing as during the PS1 days it was neck and neck, with the GameBoy unbalacing things,

I don't, but 3DS is still selling nicely, not far behind the PS4. And I heard the Wii U isn't selling at a loss anymore. But anyway, the point was that Sony didn't destroy Nintendo during the PS2 era. Companies care for profit. Fans often look too much at hardware numbers, while completely ignoring the fact if the company makes a profit or not. I don't think NIntendo cares where they make the most profit from. Making profit from consoles isn't more prestigious than making profit from handhelds you know... |
Yeah but sony made much more money, money they spended to into research and devoloping games as well as online infastructure thats why they didnt profited as much. SNK made also profits all the time until arcades crashed in 2000 and they werent preperaed because of their small marketshare.

Great idea for a thread dd.shark! I'd be really interested in more of these retrospectives from E3 over the years. :D |
Thanks. I will do some more digging. I will put most interesting ones.
